Xbox 360 has no HDMI slot?

For the last few years ive been using my xbox 360 through a 17" computer monitor via the vga cable(quality not brilliant).

I decided to buy myself a 23" HDTV (1080P) for xmas.

Was just looking at how to connect all up (tv not arrived yet!)

And have discovered my xbox has no HDMI slot!

So i take it only the newer ones have it.


Will the quality still be much better than on my monitor, or am i going to be disapointed?

or is there some sort of adaptor i can buy?

Your right, only newer ones have HDMI.

Do you have component in on the TV? If so you can get an analogue HD signal through those.

If you get the HD cable, i think it will go unto 1080i but not 1080p

From the Elite onwards IIRC had HDMI ports.

Those units would have been made after the Elite was first released, all Xboxes made after that had it IIRC.

Just get a component cable, I think most if not all games run in 720p anyway so there's really no need for 1080p.

So I will still get a good picture by just using the component cable?

And will this still be far better quality than the vga lead to a pc monitor?

I don't really know the difference between 1080i/1080P Etc.

Er hang n I think I got tht confused.

It's the cable that has the 3 different colours for the video feed.

The hd Xbox lead has 6 plugs.

Red and white are audio

Yellow is standard definition video

Red, green and blue are for hd video

There is also a switch on the Xbox end of the lead for sd/hd.

Component is also HD so yes it will be a decent picture.

So i need to get the xbox HD lead then.

Indeed you do - I noticed very little if any difference in quality between the component hd and HDMI on a 32" tv, but I get the impression, depending on the way you tv processes the image, you may encounter a greater input lag than with HDMI.

I didn't notice the difference on my TV, so I may be wrong.

Remember, there's a difference between HD and digital.

There are Analogue SD signals (like composite), there are Analogue HD signals (like component), there are Digital SD signals (can't remember) and there are Digital HD signals (like HDMI).

No it isn't, I use mine with the component HD cable in 1080p.

I've found that with my TV, an official Xbox 360 VGA cable gives me better results than a component hd cable. Just depends on your TV, if it's got a VGA port and what resolution it supports.

Sounds like he's talking about the bog standard composite cable which comes with the machine, this cannot carry a HD signal.

Stuff on the internet says otherwise - HDMI causes a bit more input lag because of the digital processing involved. It's quite a problem with "Rocksmith" which uses a real guitar with the Xbox like Guitar Hero does with a fake guitar. Can't say I saw any difference between the two on my TV.
