Someone decided to setup a Steam group to pester Valve for information about future Half Life releases, and it seems to have gotten some traction!

http://steamcommunity.com/groups/messagetovalve

They have a point, HL is turning into the next Duke Nukem - style fiasco. Except hopefully the product at the end will be, you know, good.

IMO they ought to wrap up with Epi 3 before HL3... discuss!

Joined. Whether it will lead to any news or updates remains to be seen! They do have a point though.

I don't get the clamour for Ep.3 TBH.

Whilst HL1 was one of the finest games I ever played - it was an epic game in scale, production, and story - HL2 was dire IMO.

The city elements allowed zero exploration, there was a raft of crappy physic puzzles that seemed to have been added purely because the engine could do physics rather than to enhance the story, and the story, well that was just rubbish. It just made little sense and offered virtually no explanation as how we got from the end of HL1 to the start of HL2. The only positive was that the water looked incredible.

I can help with the latter. Go to Hull, go clubbing, find a girl - any girl - and offer to buy her gravy and chips. By the morning you'll have headcrabs.

AUIU HLep3 has been on the back burner due to TF2 and the imminent CS:GO.

I'd imagine once CS:GO has been released more news about HLep3 will trickle out

Gabe is currently trolling the gaming community about this. He emailed someone asking about this on 4chan that Valve will be announcing something with a 3 in it. He didn't clarify whether this was episode 3, half life 3, counterstrike 3 or left for dead 3 however much to /v/'s chagrin. I deeply suspect this will be announced soon and until then gamers will be wound up by getting snippets of information about it.

Valve did the same thing surrounding Portal 2, with their fake "GladOS" blue screens of death at gaming conventions, the "Transmission recieved" achievement which led to that puzzle embedded in a portal 1 update that ended up being a dialup bulletin board number which spat out portal 2 ascii art when you dialled it, and so on...

Did you complete HL1? You got from there to second game by staying on the train until the G-Man comes to get you and throws you onto the HL2 train. Simples. The rest of the plot is the standard fighting aliens stuff, not that much to miss apart from mysterious glimpses of the G-Man.

I did. But how did the world get from normal to that portrayed in HL2 in the short space of a train journey?

It's a magic train. Pretty sure that was explained?

G-man put Gordon into suspended animation, to bring him back when he's needed, HL2 is a point in the future from HL.

It's kinda explained at the end of HL and start of HL2 if you pay attention :-P

I like to think Gordon was only in the magic train for a few minutes, the G-Man has a pretty firm control of time and space so I doubt he waited the years for the war/occupation to play out. That said, I think having no idea whats going on was a deliberate design decision.

All this talk of Half-Life has made me want Episode 3 again banghead

This thread has made me want to go back in time and play HL1 for the first time again... When I thought "Jesus, this is it! This stupid pointless hobby I've had since the Acorn days has finally caught up with movies!"

Well, we're NEARLY there ; )

They have to make another HL. Its one of the biggest most sucessfull series ever released.

I think they have just prioritised other projects, perhaps its all part of the plan. Id suspect HL3 would be on a new engine with cutting edge gfx which maybe what they are holding out for.

Agreed. They need to break new ground again which is a tall order. I'm guessing it will be a halo game for a new gen console release.

On a side note, having started to take the DLR, the urge to run about in there with a crowbar is strong!

Edited a their for a there typo

HL2 was an incredible game, good story, good gameplay and some good addons (Team Fortress) and DLC (Ep1, 2). I’ve played it through many times.

Really looking forward to the final chapter, which I suspect will be pretty much finished and they’re just building up the anticipation like they did with HL2.
