I'll be picking up my new 360 S today from Tesco (£185 for console plus Forza4 from Tes Direct!) later. But I have the problem of transferring all the save game data (prestige on MW3, etc) from the old HDD to the new 360.

I am very reluctant to line the pockets of Microsoft further by spending £15 on a cable that I'm only going to use ONCE. They should provide these free ffs. Anyway....

Is there another method, cheaper way this can be done?

Many thanks
Cad

Well if you are quite DIY savvy then what you need to do is remove the HD from the unit on the old machine. I did this with my xbox (Slim) to save a few quid on a HD by getting a cheap one from ebay/cash convertors.

Do not worry about peoples comments about breaching MS TOS. It does not. Your still using the HD. I have been using mine for 2 years with no problem and you will only be transfering data.

Here is a vid to help you. It really is simple!

Thanks for that thumbup

I assume I won't be banned from Live once I have opened it up? Sensors, etc..
I also assume you just put in the old HDD, transfer the data onto the 'cloud' storage thingy, then put back the new HDD?

I got the 4MB Xbox so never had a HD. The alternative would be to use a USB stick just to move the files from one HD to another. Never used the cloud storage so far.

No, no. Take the HD out the old Xbox caddy and put in the new one. Transfer the data to a memory stick on the new Xbox. Then take out the old drive and put in the existing HD and transfer from USB to HD. Proper Job!
