With the news that Mass Effect 3 is going to have Day One (i.e. release day) DLC - that will cost - I was wondering what people thought about this in general?
Is this just an excuse to squeeze more money out of the punter (as it implies you don't have the full game)?
Should day one content DLC actually be in the game, given it is developed at the same time?
So for example your MS3 game on, say xbox, will be £40 to buy - then say another £10(?) for the DLC - £50. Which is quite a lot IMO.

DLC should be a developers way to ring a bit more life out of a game before its replacement comes out, bit like map packs in MW3, or shivering isle for oblivion. DLC on day one shows that they are just trying to increase profits by not putting everything in the released game, which (imho) puts them on morally shakey ground if they are going to claim poverty in the fight against copyright theft.

Release day DLC? I personally think that's a complete piss take. There was DLC released a couple of weeks after the release date of Dirt 3, which pissed me off a bit. But having DLC on the release day? It's pure money-grabbing tttery, in my opinion.

Yep, me too. I'll bet it's actually on the disc, too, and you just download an unlock to enable it.

This, no question.
It's so they can push the release date earlier and 'tidy' up the bugs etc. to get the game actually ready for release; I have a problem with that anyway (fine if you're online, but if you're not, you have to put up with a buggy game?), but it wouldn't be so bad if it were free.
Absolute piss take IMO.

Explain your reasoning as to why you disagree with the above?

Very long rant on the subject (CONTAINS MINOR SPOILERS):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ri0vrJ-y2zM

It isn't that Day One DLC is bad, it depends on what the DLC actually is. One of the examples given in the video is an addition that many of the fans would really really want and would enhance their enjoyment of the game and yet it was left out unless you pay and extra $10. It is a rip-off imo.

Probably still going to buy the game and the DLC though paperbag

A better solution is providing a free DLC code in the box allowing you access to the content upon buying a new copy.

Anyone buying the game second hand would need to purchase the DLC (code will have been used) which then contributes towards the developers/publishers.

I have no issue with Day One DLC conceptually - just when it has to be paid for.

EA is really pushing the boundaries here. They did something similar with Dragon Age 2 in that if you pre-ordered, you got the Day One DLC (which otherwise cost 800 MSP) free of charge. They've gone one better (worse?) with ME3 in having Day One DLC but it's only free if you bought the more-money-than-sense Collectors Edition.

Offer it as an incentive to buy the gamer early (and hence new, rather than waiting and buying it second hand more cheaply) but it rather takes the piss (IMHO at least) to have Day One DLC that you only get free if you paid twice the RRP of the normal edition and bought the collector's edition.

It's only going to get more common though....
