I worked it out the other day. Since I started (in the beta) I have spent over £800 on iRacing. Ouch.

I only buy tracks I like such as Mid Ohio, and I rarely actually race, I prefer hotlapping during testing.

In weeks when the HPDs are at tracks I don't have I drive a DP or the MX5.

Looking forward to the Lotus 49 though.

That was my 1st thought but then I figured it is cheaper than track days, plus the price keeps the 12 year olds away that drive the wrong way round a track etc.

Most of them....

But seriously, it's a great service. I haven't raced there for a while though, I find it requires too much investment (in time) to get the most out of it, which tends to ruin my life I also started to think that I was at a disadvantage equipment-wise....the G25 is great (albeit without pressure cell brake pedal), but without the budget/space for triple-screens and a racing chair, fov and comfort are issues that hamper your experience and performance.

I still subscribe though, IMO it's worth it just for hot-lapping, especially on tracks you know in real life (if only as a spectator).

I haven't raced in a while - I actually think rFactor2 has a better feel, and rFactor1 has more variety.

I manage to get by with a Logitech DFP mounted on my desk, however now the brake pedal is starting to piss me off - people being able to brake later than me and not lock their wheels up, smothing not quite right there. And OP, even is iRacing does start off cheap it will soon start to get very expensive. A track here, a car there that you want to try, soon adds up to £20 a pop!

Far too expensive for me. I get all the tracks, cars and tons more in rFactor with pretty similar graphics and handling. Project CARS has been well worth £20 too, lots of new stuff being added all the time, including Old Hockenheim, Donington and Road America in today's build.

Well I am using a very old Microsoft Sidewinder steering wheel and I do find I cant corner or brake like everyone else. Maybe it is time to invest in a 27 wheel?

I have just signed up to iracing and have a question regarding the driving view of the car.

All of the original cars, that come with the sim when you first subscribe, that I have tried so far only have the in-car view which I don't normally use for driving games as I find the a-pillar obstructs the view through tight corners.

Is it possible to change the driving view to say roof or bonnet cam and if so how?

I read somewhere that Pageup/Pagedown toggles through the driving views but this doesn't work for me.

Nope. In-car only. You can change the FOV using the [ and ] keys, or set it in the options.

No in car only, but remember this isn't a PS3 game it is meant to be as close as it gets. You cant veiw from anywhere other than the car seat in real life.

This is very dissapointing news and yes I have experimented with changing the FOV.
I will have to decide whether to persevere with it now as whilst I agree the feel of the car is great I just cannot get on with driving using the in-car view.

I signed up on a 3 for 1 month trial and then got the full year membership for half price on their Thanksgiving sale. That's $56 for 15 months membership. I've probably spent a fortune on cars and tracks, but I have all that I need now and am paid up until Jan 2013.

It's great, but could do with an updated graphics engine, some dynamics environment (changings skies, dynamic lighting or even rain please), and maybe a couple of extra cars & tracks to really complete the experience....ie 911 Gt3 and LeMans please.
