Using Kinect for video calls (like Skype)

With the baby due in a couple of weeks now (bugger hasn't turned so I think they'll be forcing the lazy git out ) we're under pressure from the parents of my partner to get a video call thingy setup as we live 100 miles away from family, not a great distance I know but these are the types of people who think travelling 5 miles to the supermarket requires ten piss breaks and a picnic hamper

Is it possible to do anything like this via Xboxlive and the Kinect?

Yes, it uses MSN for it's video chat. If your family have msn messenger you can talk to them with your kinect/xbox. There is no skype for it AFAIK.

Skype is due later this year, apparently that's why Microsoft bought it.

That's good to know thanks, already suggested using MSN instead and he had a nervous breakdown It's just that it'll be difficult to park a baby and both of us in front of a laptop and the Kinnect will be easier for viewing them on tv too
