I have searched but not found anything on here yet, Game are saying May 15th release date for Diablo III, just wondered if anyone had read much about the new version, a lot to live up to and some serious competition these days - WoW, Dark Souls etc etc.

You can't pause the single player game and you have to be connected to the internet at all times. I think I'll wait for Torchlight 2.

So?

I've been playing the beta. They've changed quite a few things, yet kept quite a few things the same. Apparently they experimented with lots of different things at different stages and threw a lot of them away.

I'll be honest, I was hoping to ignore this, as I don't have a PC to play games anymore. I play xbox 360 all the time. But, once I started playing the beta, the addiction came back. "I'll stop, just one more level" I said. "Just one more waypoint" I said. Somehow blizzard seem to capture the addictiveness of trying to find 'that better item' or level up 'one more time'. The stuff they've changed is interesting. When you level up there are no longer decisions to make. Your stats go up automatically depending on your character. And your skill tree, well, you get everything. The reason they did this is because people were often annoyed in D2 that they nerfed their characters by barking up the wrong (skill) tree. Now you can change how your character plays when you get bored of him every 10 levels. It's good.

At high res and full physics on it's very pretty, lots of interaction with the environment. Essentially I think if you were addicted to diablo 2, you'll be addicted to this. I've tried many variations on the game over the last 10 years, none have come close to the level of detail and addictiveness of Diablo. And I think they've done it again.

It obviously won't be as successful as it's predecessor as there are now so many different developers doing different things, also I think the PC game market has shrunk relative to the console market. But it's still superb, and will probably be the first PC game I've bought in about 7 years.

Thanks for the warning. hehe

I do recall thinking, "Just a quick game of Diablo 2" and switching off my computer 5 hours later at 4am. You're right about the skill thing. Have to be soooo careful not to "buy" the wrong skill if you want to develop a particular kind of character.

I have a confession in that I never got Diablo (Or Starcraft) in my younger years, I feel I may have missed out.

Looked at some of the vids on youtube and it looks good, may be worth investing in this time round

D2 graphics-wise isn't great. But doing "runs" with a group of other adventurers is good fun. Trying to get special "drops" from monsters you've killed is also interesting. Perhaps it is this interactivity that has kept it going. You could probably still get involved in group sessions with D2 on Blizzard's servers even though it's over 10 years old. Might check later.

I lost hours/days/weeks of my life to D2, I suspect D3 will be the same.

Noticed the big 'pre-order now!' signage up in the local Tesco, which (considering its a PC game) is suprising, as many stores have stopped stocking PC games now.

They're 24 hours too....am I that nerdy that I'll be heading there at 12:01?? I've not decided yet wink

The wise thing to do would be to order from gameplay to get it a day early. OH WAIT. I think there are a few other online shops that'll get it to you a day early.

I've been playing the Beta, quite liking it so far a lot of things are different from D2 but it is pretty fun.
I'm looking forward to the proper relase and playing past the Skeleton King biggrin

Yeah, only so many times you can kill him. Finished it with 3 chars, doesn't take long.

I've got it on pre-order, special edition even.

Blizzard is "quite good at this, making me pay extra for the shiny package... did it on WoW Cataclysm, SCII and now D3 hehe

That doesn't pause the game (unless they've changed it recently), just brings up the menu while the game keeps running in the background like when you 'pause' a multiplayer game.

Beta Patch 13 I believe, although I don't have it so can't confirm 100%

As far as I'm aware, they've confirmed a console release, but not a date as yet.
