My son was playing MW2 last night in a hack lobby(what ever that is) and got his account hacked.
He was prestige 9 level 73 and someone demoted him to prestige 1 level 1 and according to the stats he needs 1000000512 XP to level up to 2.
So 2 questions really,how can this happen? and can someboby steal or pry at other info via the Playstation?

k knows who in there, I'm not surprised to be honest.It's been around for a while. It's mainly a MW2 hack, AFAIK it doesn't compromise the console or any data on it ,just the game save for MW2.
I've ended up in 'hacked lobbies' before now. If someone is cheating and is the host machine (remember MW2 is P2P so anyone can be "server") then they can run code which affects other players, not just their own.
best plan is to get out of the lobby as soon as you realise.
PSN never ban anyone, Xbox live are draconian and ban people and blacklist the consoles.

No information of your sons psn account has been effected.
As others have said he joined a hacked lobby and the host who had a modded patch on his ps3 de-ranked your son.(probably just because he could.)
There's nothing he can do really apart from if he gets into another hacked lobby he could message the host asking him to rank him back up.

How do you know if you are in a hacked lobby?
quite often they will have writing up the side of the screen advertising a youtube page or something similar with their clan, you can usually tell because the general behavior of the onscreen players is different, i've been in one where they jump about 20m high and are running around on invisible platforms above the map, other times the majority of them will have the highest possible levels or get perfect shots every time. I tend to leave as soon as I see one of these warning signs though
