Close Combat 3 is a fairly old PC game, for Windows 98, but one I rather liked. Came back to it recently, having bought a new Windows Vista computer 3 years or so ago. The game runs perfectly well, with one exception. There are 2 zoom settings for the combat map. Zoomed out you can see the whole battlefield. Zoomed in, you can only see a portion. You mostly play with the map zoomed in, so you can see what is happening with each of your units, keeping an eye on an inset map of the entire battlefield enabled in the corner of the screen. To target an enemy unit you trace a line of fire from your unit to the enemy, using the mouse. However, when the pointer reaches the edge of the zoomed in screen area, it shoots very quickly to the map edge, going way beyond the target's location. When you then bring the mouse pointer back, it hits the edge of the zoomed in area again and flies back in the other direction, ending behind you. The zoomed in map should scroll smoothly towards your target at a rate controlled by how far and quickly you move the mouse.

I have set the map scroll speed in the game options to slow, and have also adjusted the mouse pointer speed to slow in "Control Panel". Neither of these steps has helped. Anyone got any suggestions? Thanks

is this one of those games that might run many times faster because the computer speed today is far beyond what is was in 1998 and the time scaling (if there is any) just doesnt extend to cope?

I dunno, I do remember the odd old game would run incredibly fast just because todays computers were so much faster than what was around and forthcoming in the 90's
