Anyone playing Mass Effect 3?
Discussion
got this the other day - really enjoying the depth even if it is a bit linear and I'm still wondering if the conversations and attitudes i'm displaying will have an effct at some point.
First time through I'm playing the diplomat / soldier method...but this might mean we end up weak come the final conflict....
oh well...
any general tips / advice?
its a break from BF3

I'm very late to the ME series. I bought ME and ME2 about 3 week ago and have finished #1, and almost ready for the 'suicide' mission on ME2.
I have bought ME3, but I might have another play through of #2 before I start that.
Great games
Although took alot of patience for me to first get into, I'm glad I did now

Although took alot of patience for me to first get into, I'm glad I did nowi've been looking at some tips and hints etc (not cheats) and there are some diffrences between 2 and 3 - I think if sheppard survives at eh end of ME2 you can import him into ME3 with all his upgrades etc.
I'm startign from scratch and I expect I'll failbrilliantly the first few times through. its not 100% clear yet what influence I'm having on my battle readiness using various methods etc...i.e. if I'm renegade with the Krogan do they bring more to the final battle than If I am more vanguards etc
time will tell but you have to play single and multiplayer before the final battle.
ps what is iOS? do you know?

k. You kinda just spoiled the ending for me as I haven't finished #2 yet, I didn't know Shepard could die. Oh well. You should play them from 1 > 3 as when you import your char, all your decisions get carried over and affect lots of different stuff. I'm not sure what iOS is.
I've recently finished with ME3 after completing it and then doing a hard mode playthrough.
The only tips that you'll really need are as follows:
1) I went for the solider path too. The missile skill is quite useful but the 'bullet time' skill is the best one of the lot, as it eventually slows time and buffs your weapon strength. Also, make sure you are beefing up your stats on the skill tree too.
2) Make sure you always use an ammo skill (Ice rounds were my favourite as they can slow and freeze enemies). Your teammates will use them whenever they can too.
3) Keep your loadout light, and keep your team light. I chose to take a pistol, a rifle and a lightweight sniper rifle for my Shepard. Similarly, keep your team mate's weight down. This will allow powers to recharge quicker, which means you can spam them out and they are vital for tackling tougher enemies.
The only tips that you'll really need are as follows:
- When you are on Tali's planet, you will come up a lift into an area with three Geth primes. They are tough, but there is a special weapon next to the crates at the lift door that will make the fight much easier. Sadly, I only discovered this after finishing that fight on Insanity mode...
- When you go to Cerberus HQ you will be forced to take EDI. Take Liara or Garrus as the second choice as the fight against Kai Leng can be tricky. I used Garrus both times IIRC, though it may have been easier with Liara there to use her warp power against Kai Leng and the singularity power against the troops. That fight is a pain in the arse on Insanity.
- When you have the fight near the end of the game next to the missile launchers in the streets, the final section is timed, so you just have to survive for a couple of minutes. Just run, and let your team mates hang back and cover you. Find a convenient hiding place, wait for the message saying the missile launcher is online then rush to that.

The ultimate team for ME3 is Garrus and Liara. Use Garrus' "overload" power, then Liara's "warp" to deshield and then levitate an enemy. When they are floating, shoot the s
t out of them, or use Shepard's "carange" skill, an explosive homing missle he can learn after fully gaining the trust of Cortez, the soldier (go down to the bottom level of the Normandy and talk to him after everyone mission*). This skill almost never misses, deals loads of damage, has splash damage to hit other enemies and recharges very quickly - it's almost unbalanced, it's so powerful. With this team, and this tactic, you can chew through firefights with ease.
Stick to the advice from Baryonyx, keep your team light - they only need one light weapon and one heavy, a pistol and a sniper rifle / assault rifle will suffice. Having quick recharges on your powers (which is defined by how heavy your characters weapon loadouts are) is key to success, it's far, far more effective than having loads of different weapons per character.

- do this for everyone. After every mission, walk around the Normandy and talk to every character. Plenty of great dialogue, and you will earn the trust of your team, and as such, learn lots of skills by doing this.
I was picking up on that actually and I do spend quite a bit of time chatting to the crew.
I didn't pick soldier as I thought the balance of one fo the other types (i forget just now) was better.
is there a major divergence point that is good to save at? first time through so I'm not expecting great things but I am enjoying it.
thanks all

Whereas the first two games were 9/10 for me, this one is more of a 7/10.
Far too streamlined, poor team-mates in comparison to what was on offer in ME2 and the conversation choices seem less meaningful and far to black-and-white. Absolutely zero exploration on the ground, side quests are a nightmare too.
I was massively dissapointed with it, and thats before I mention the ending. Not sure how they managed to get it "wrong" (relatively speaking).
