HELP NEEDED! Old xbox knackered, profile transfer advice.

This post is on behalf of a friend who i play Forza with.

His old style xbox is slowly dying and he desperately needs to transfer all his profiles and saved files, tunes paints etc, to his new style xbox before the other one kicks the bucket. He's a bit of a technophobe so requires a step by step idiots guide please! You guys are all geniuses so figured you'd be the ones to ask.

I think I'll need the same thing very soon, my old school Elite is preparing to give up the ghost as we speak. It takes 20 minutes to read the disc in it and everytime I switch it on I think it's going to give me the Red Ring of Death.

Does the old style Data Transfer cable work with the new ones?

If it does it's just a quick phone call to Microsoft and they'll send one out to you with a disc, just plug the old HDD into the new XBox via the cable, put the disc in and let it do it's thing for an hour or so.

He's buggered then.

Tell him to remember his passwords. If he used his normal email address he can just select the forot password option. If he really doesn't know it then he's shagged and will have to start again.

xbox accounts use a windows live profile, so whichever email address was used for the live profile can be used to retrieve the xbox account.
