Anybody else playing or planning to play this? I'm throughly enjoying it at the moment, feels a lot like Warhammer to me in terms of questing.
Good things:
Lots to do. (pvp, crafting, questing, world events, etc...) and everything gives you xp. The first L80 has already been done, and that was through crafting alone.
Story driven rather than quest driven (so far).
Very pretty
A lot of the usual annoying MMO bulls
t has gone. No worrying about tagging enemies, just hit stuff and shoot stuff and everyone gets rewarded for doing so. All your crafting materials have a central place to put them which doesn't fill up your backpack. You bank is across account and most stuff so far is not soulbound.
Fighting actually takes a little bit of skill, rather than just standing still and timing your button rotation. Plus your skills and abilities are largely based on the weapon type you have equipped, carry lots of weapon types and you have lots of different toys to play with.
Some lovely little touches. If you craft a lot of stuff at once, each successive item gets crafted faster and faster. Enemy mobs have bonus xp based on how long they have been alive, so if you find a lesser travelled area the mobs are worth more.
Scaling. All content in whatever zone will be worth something, no matter what level you are at. If you are above the level for the zone you get scaled down to the appropriate level, yet still get rewards based on your actual level. Scaling doesn't work upwards though.
Community. Every node and item found is for you and you alone, and any xp gained on kills is also yours, based on the amount of contribution you made. This means no killstealing, no ninja of nodes or drops, you are actually happy to see other people around and help them out, and vice versa, as it only positively affects your game, and every time I have gone down, someone has gone out of their way to rez me
Bad things:
Took ages to get the servers up and working, and still takes a few goes to get it. I predict it will melt tonight now that it on general release.
In terms of actual quests it's very linear, I haven't progressed outside the starting zones yet, but you pretty much only have 1 or 2 quests you can do at any one time, so if you don't fancy them, then it is repeatable random events for you.
Some of the world events and shared quests are hard, and don't seem to scale very well to how many people are in the area. It's fine while it is busy, but I imagine it'll be pretty much impossible to do some of them when the zones start to empty.
Only 5 character slots per account, yet 8 classes? Who thought that was a good idea?

I was wondering why there was no thread on this game
I have been playing it since Saturday. Currently lvl 12. Im really enjoying it. Lots to do, the quests are mostly fun. None of the usual fetch 3 old boots rubbish. I played Age of Conan a couple of years ago and the combat seems quite similar so that helps.
I like the fact that for PVP everyone is levelled up to 80 and everyone has the same power gear. Nice even playing field.
So far so good. If anyone wants to add me my characters name is Bollognese. Account name: Bolognese.2419

I'm going to give it a month or so, see what people think once the "oh, shiny!" effect has worn off. Does look good from the trailers though, as mentioned I did get reminders of Warhammer, and that had some great ideas (but badly implemented) so will keep an eye on it.
Got Torchlight 2, Borderlands 2 and a bunch of stuff from the Steam sale still to work through, so I'll check in once all those are done!
there was a thread but f
k all interest. you need to get out of the starting area before passing comment on 'linear gameplay' its not even close to being linear.
(lvl 35 ele) first dungeon is a load of fun.

That's good to know, like I said i'm still only in the starting area, hit L15 by the end of Monday.

- Challenging jumping puzzles that can take hours to complete with friends. (with dungeon boss grade and player lvled rewards)
- Vistas to highlight the landscape.
- Scouts that give you an instight into the goings on in the area.
- Hearts replace general questing chains.
- Dynamic events some with lasting consequences linked with hearts and way points.
- World bosses in every zone & multiple champions.
- Punishing dungeons.
- No hand holding face roll mode past lvl-15
- XP from gathering and trade skills.
- No loss of trade skill progression when switching between them.
- No need to follow defined rotations or builds.
- No elitest pve tarts in SPVP (Gear in pvp only)
- WvWvW HUGE!
The game is great. There are a few bugs at pressent the major being the lack of the auction house eqv. It's only been 4 full days live so I'm not going to winge about them.
We've already had guild events and there plenty going on within other guilds in our alliance. Lots of fun.
[edit to add]
- Personal Story line starts off a bit slow but as soon as you start getting choices it get interesting as the choices you make now have a big knock on effect later on with regards to your allegiances and factions.

Girlfriend bought it and I've tried it on her account. It's not linear at all. You have one over riding Personal quest but you dictate what that involves via your choices during character creation.
The animation and graphics are good, not Crysis quality, but very smooth with a good degree of attention to detail. The armor is 3D rahter than a skin over a generic shape.
Combat is far more fluid than the majority of MMORPGs to come out recently.
However, it's been out for 4 (or 1) days depending on how you look at it and they're still sorting out some of the teething issues.

Brand new MMO's are like brand new versions of Windows: Best not touch them until they've had a a month or two to iron out all the bugs/inconsistencies.
I'm happy with Guild Wars 1 and feel no burning desire to have "the latest one". Although i'm concerned about server-stability as the newer game will be favoured.

As for the complaints about character slots and other limitations; it's how the game model works. No monthly cost and a charge for extra's (such as char slots, costumes, name changers, storage panes). But crucially those with money to burn do not have a tactical advantage over those who don't. For example you have access to the same pets, you just have to find them, whereas spenders can purchase a "pet unlock" pack which saves them the effort.
If the first game was anything to go by, you got extra character slots with every expansion pack.

Looks good but I don't get why they didn't make a proper version for Macs.
I'v read you can get a program called "Wine" to run it on your mac without the need of bootcamping but still it means messing around with things.
The majority of people always go back to Wow, but there does seem to be quite a big following for GW!

Just bumping this as I'm about to complete the first "map" and this really is the first of the classic feel MMOs that's kept my attention. Really nice level design, lovely graphics, smooth and regular random occurrences that you can join in on (or not as you chose)
All in all a really good game and one that I actively look forward to playing when I get back home. Can't remember what server I'm on and I think I'm only level 16 so it's still fairly early days but great so far!

Make sure you get every POI, Vista etc... You get some nice kit for doing that All in all a really good game and one that I actively look forward to playing when I get back home. Can't remember what server I'm on and I think I'm only level 16 so it's still fairly early days but great so far!

Im currently level 34 with a Ranger. Superb game not had that many bugs considering its only just been released. Had one bug with the story at around lvl 30 which was fixed within a day - devs seem to be doing a great job.
Very polished, the graphics are great and I love all the random encounters etc. Tried a little bit of world pvp last night, was carnage but lots of fun.
