Planetside 2 - Free-2-play PC Game
Discussion
Has anyone else been playing any Planetside 2?
It's been in beta for a while now but I haven't seen any threads on here about it, and considering how popular BF3 and other FPSs are I thought you guys might like it....
It's basically a MMO FPS, so the maps (or 'continents' in PS2 speak) are truly massive. Check out this BF3 'Caspian Border' v.s. PS2 continent comparison:

As it's a MMO (with day / night cycle) there are no rounds, the battles and territory won / lost is ongoing. Makes for some interesting games play, i've been playing FPSs for years and not seen anything like it before.
The main difference between PS2 and other games is scale - the continent will support 2000 at a time. I've been in 20-30 vehicle tank columns supported by air cover meeting forces of similar size. Troop fire fights inside of bases are of a similar scale, properly good fun
No limit to the vehicles / aircraft - if your team wants to create 50 fighters then each team member can get an aircraft when they want
It's going to be released on 20th November and will be free-to-play : http://www.planetside2.com/
Some vids showing game play (some in game chat so probably NSFW-language)...
Lots of tanks & night-time footage & chat

Large number of aircraft:

Loads of tanks & attack:

There was a thread a few weeks ago, I think there was a few people playing Beta. I've been at it for a month or so, the scale blows BF3 out the water. Good fun. Seems a good mix of vehicles and infantry with some fun classes.
Yeah, was just a little surprised not to see more chat about it in here
A bit like BF3 over a massive area with loads more people, tanks and planes.I think it's matured and progressed in the last few weeks / months - more involved territory capture mechanics, better performance, etc..
Worth point out that the beta ends today....
Full release (free of course) will be on the 20th November.
I'd check youtube for videos if you don't get it installed today - there are loads.
In comparison to BF3 - basically the scale is one of the main things. Running from one corner of the map to the other just isn't feasible, not just because of the time it would take but because you may stray into enemy territory
You can spawn land / air vehicles at bases your particular faction owns, or get into vehicles (as passenger / gunner) that others have created.
Visually there is perhaps a little less 'fog' than BF3 (like the rain in Grand Bazaar) but PS2 has a full day-night cycle and can be really amazing at night.
The combat mechanic feels similar in some ways to BF3, but as a trooper some times seeing 20 tanks rolling towards you means your number may be up
A squad / troop / outfit of people has a much better chance of success - there is nothing stopping you going out as a lone player sniping from the hills but the team game play is not only much more effective but also much more fun
Well worth trying

Totally worth a shot if it's even half as good as original Planetside; the first game I got totally and utterly hooked on, loved the massive scale of the battles and the ongoing war, and still have amazing memories of it nearly a decade later. Didn't get to see much in beta thanks to my PC being a bit on the old side, need an upgrade to play it properly I think, but I'm very much hoping this one can live up to its predecessor, should be good if it does.
I'm trying to sign up. Either I'm blind, or the UK isn't an option on the country select list. I'ver looked for UK, United Kingdom, Great Britain, England. There is ntohing?
ETA: I don't see France or Germany either. It's okay though, the Falkland Islands are listed, can't forget them!

I played this for 6 hours lastnight, the scale of the battles is huge, I stood on a hill (cloaked) and watched 30+ enemy tanks and 50+ infantry with air cover charge into one of our bases, I took a few pot shots got a few kills and bugged out. We didnt have the numbers to counter it.
The scale is just huge it was a fun night.
