I think Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas seem suited to what you're after. Both have Game of the Year editions to get all the DLC/Expansions and can be picked up cheap.

X-COM. I loved the original, the new one is excellent. Fresh, compared to the ubiquitous shooters.....

Yep Skyrim and Fallout 3 for RPGs.
Then Battlefield 3 for on-line awesomeness.

Just to start out, Toxic, you need to become my game reviewer because for 90% of the games that both you and I have played I would totally agree with you opinions on them.

You have listed most of the definitive titles this generation but missed out one of my favorites and that's assassins creed. The first game is a bit shallow and I can understand why some left the series there but Assassins Creed 2 is just mint. Three is a bit poo though.

If you;ve played GoW 1 and 2 you have to do 3 as the story is just absolutely fking epic.

It could be that you want a game with more instant gratification whereas the games I named require time put in to get to sufficient level/weaponry to start kicking a**e....

I'd say you had about 10 copies of the same game up there. No variation at all. Where are the sims, strategies, RPGs, etc?

No worries - ignore me mate, I was spoiling for a fight this morning. One of those 'want to see the world burn' days.

LA Noire was actually surprisingly good as is the Assassin's Creed series.

I thought LA Noire was a wonderful idea, and brave in a world of "Call of Honour 13".
It just didn't quite hang together as well as I'd hoped...

How about Saints Row the Third. All the thrills and spills of GTA with extra craziness added.

R.U.S.E is a lot of fun and very under rated.

I've been playing RTS games since Dune 2 and it's one of the best imo.
