Apologies if there's a thread, search is down.

So, has anyone got this, or is currently playing it? How does it compare to something like skyrim?

Was shown it on a friend's Eggbox but I can't stand the forced 3rd person perspective.

I have it, it is not awful but I found it a struggle to complete due to boredom. The gameplay is pretty dull, the maps are crap and the storyline is crap too.

I was hoping it would be a grown up Skyrim but they made it 'mature' by useless swearing and a few sex scenes.

It is better than Two Worlds, but nowhere near as good as the likes of Fable or Elder Scrolls.

I had it and couldn't even bring myself to finish it, it was punishingly dull. Most of the game seemed to be spent walking backwards and forwards inside a giant army encampment doing sweet FA. The game had promise, with these Witchers being "Monster hunters", but in reality it was just crushingly dull. The gameplay was stodgy and the graphics were pretty poor too. Something like Skyrim is not just a cut above Witcher 2, it's not even on the same planet.

I got it for £5 in the Steam sale - The Witcher 1 was good, but suffered from a chronic combat system that relied on timed mouse clicks, but otherwise the fundamentals were enjoyable.

I've only played a few hours of 2 so far (still finishing other games) but at the moment, it seems decent. Combat is incredibly fiddly on K&M, so I'll need to use my xbox pad from now on! It feels a bit more in depth (mechanically) than games like Skyrim, so going into it expecting similar is going to lead to disaster.

I think its more of a classic-style RPG than Skyrim is - not in the true definition of the term, but Skyrim is more an 'aRPG', whereas TW2 has more complicated systems beneath the surface. I don't rate Skyrim as highly as it seems people do on here, as I find open-world games lead to a more shallow experience; especially in terms of characterisation and structure - it's just harder to tell a really good story when people can go anywhere, and do anything. (That being said, I've not played TW2 enough to judge its story).

Otherwise, it's averaging 88 on Metacritic, so it's not all bad:

I probably wouldn't bother, it's not very good. It was hyped to hell and back, but it really fell flat.

Downsides:

1) Unwieldy, stodgy story told mostly though reams of uninteresting text on the menu pages.

2) Poor graphics

3) Rubbish pace. Most of the game really is spent wandering round a sparely populated army camp. It's extremely dull. There is very little direction for what you're supposed to be doing, which will irritate anyone who likes to be thorough when completing things.

4) The 'Witcher' premise was never exploited enough. Far too much time is spent duelling boring ghosts and other people. There is very little in the way of spectacular monster moments.

5) The combat is largely rubbish. The potions and ales add little to the experience, except to make you feel like you should be saving them lest you find an enemy insurmountable. The magic system is pretty poor too.

I thought it was pretty hopeless despite trying really hard to get into it.

I'm going to go against the majority and say that I really enjoyed it. The combat was solid, not as good as Dark Souls, but more technical than most 3rd-person hack and slash types and there was a pretty good story that had multiple outcomes depending on the choices you made throughout, effectively forcing you to choose between two sides in a war, with major characters living or dying dependant on your actions.

If anyone (PC) wants to try it out it's currently on the Steam Summer sale at £3.74.

I thought it was brilliant and a bargain at that price. Great devs too.
