Upgrading to Fibre Optic Broadband for Gaming?

Anyone upgraded to fibre optic broadband solely for gaming and found it to make a noticeable difference?
I currently have a 5mb connection with about a 120ms (latency? Response time?) through a powerline connection (tried a wired connection to the modem and it was only around 20ms faster).
I could upgrade to 70mb connection, but would it be better for online multiplayer on games like BF3 on my PS3?
If nothing else, would the (several GB) downloadable content download faster, or is the console the bottleneck?

It's the ping that really matters for gaming. 120ms seems very high as I'm in rural Isle of Wight with a non-fibre 9mb connection and a usual 25-30ms ping for online games. Ask your prospective ISP what the ping will be - 70mb is no good if the ping is still over 100.I currently have a 5mb connection with about a 120ms (latency? Playing with my brothers friend on counter strike (PC) my ping is around the 60-100 mark on a 7mb connection and he gets around 8-20 on BT's fibre line which I believe is upto 38mb. It is also worth mentioning that he lives about 10 miles down the road!
So given the chance, I would love to upgrade!

the ping seems really quite high considering your line speed fiber would reduce the ping significantly unless there is an issue with the cable to your house. id stop using power line though if your really wanting the best. your new connection would help significantly in downloads too providing where your getting teh data from can handle the speed your requesting it at

to be honest you will most probably find your worse than you think you are ! some games have built in compensation for lag so the effect will be less Hmmm, maybe I'm mis-remembering the ping times - it was some time ago I tried them for wireless, wired and powerline.
The powerline only added an insignificant (10-15%) to the ping time of a direct wired connection if I remember correctly, which is why I didn't bother with the hassle of a wired connection (modem on different floor of house to console.

t router i have several and pings can go from 35-60 depending on the router used shame my best one died 
As mentioned above low ping is a must.
I'm now with Virgin after suffering BT for too long (too be far think it was their crappy homehubs rather than the service itself) - ping rate varies from high teens to mid thirties but plenty good enough for most stuff I play online. Have no trouble at all joining lobbies where it used to be a bit hit and miss.
Worst part is I seem to end up hosting in COD lobbies way more than I used to which seems to mean I get the back end of everyone else's poorer connections
