Hi all, not often I stray into these parts!

This is on behalf of someone else and I really know nothing about Wiis. They have a late 2011 Wii and bought a Skylander at Christmas. When plugged in to the USB nothing happens but the Skylander does light up if plugged into a PC USB socket. The Wii has never been used with a USB device before so we don't know if this is a new issue or always been there.

Any ideas(apart from sending it back to Nintendo)? I'll test for +5v with a multimeter in the next few days but that's about all I can do...

my son is skylander crazy on the Wii, I have just had a look at his skylanders portal and his does not have the option of a wired connection, just wireless and aa batteries.

I know his eats batteries at a rapid rate, so you could try a fresh set or contact nintendo uk support for more specfic advice.

There is a wired version as stated in the link I posted. And all version of the portal work on all platforms.

True, there is a wired version, my son has the Wii version that is wireless that I just had a quick look at to see if it has a wired port to help OP.

I just did a bit of research, and found this on the skylanders site:

Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure portal compatibility for consoles

The Xbox 360 portal will only work on an Xbox 360, and on a PC USB port while playing Skylanders Universe. The player may choose to use the web codes to unlock their Skylanders within Skylanders Universe, and simply return to the Den to change between Skylanders, OR the portal may be used to "scan in" Skylanders to unlock them, then be removed, requiring the player to go to the Den to switch between Skylanders, OR the portal may be left plugged in to PC USB port and used in Skylanders Universe in the same manner as in the Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure console game. The 3DS portal is universal and will work on any system except an Xbox 360. The PS3 and Wii have the same portal and will be interchangeable and can also work in the PC version of the game. The PC portal will only work on the PC version of the game.

So not all versions of portal work on all platforms.

This may or may not be connected to the OP's current connection difficulties.

I hope you get it sorted soon.

Hi all,

A bit of an update - this Wii specific one is only a wired coneection(they had bought a rechargable battery pack for it but there is not even a hole!). I butchered a USB cable to measure the voltage on both ports and it was less than 3v off load so the Wii is going back to Nintendo under warranty. They huffed and puffed as it was more than 12months old but the box contains a lovely 24month UK/world certificate wink
