Best maps yet, and yes there are people playing them. A lot of people. If you own BF3, you really need Premium to get the most from it.

The map packs are variable;

Back to Karkand - some good maps (Gulf of Oman is amazing) that get played a lot, some st ones that hardly ever get played.

Close Quarters - Good and bad again. Ziba Tower is good fun, very fast paced, sort of like COD rather than the traditional huge map BF style. Very good for leveling up quickly, on double XP weekends 20,000 per game is easily done.

Armoured Kill - Great if you love vehicular combat. I don't and didn't really enjoy this pack at all. Some people love it.

Aftermath - the best maps in the game. Lots of varied heights, and the earthquake-hit maps look amazing. Rubble and debris, wrecked cars all over the place, huge cracks in the roads to climb up and down etc. "Epicentre" is the best map imo, but all of the maps in this pack are good.

The final pack, "Endgame" is scheduled for a March release I think.

Each pack you download gets you some additional assignments and guns to unlock, and some dog tags. It's worth it imo, I see BF3 as something you can't really do without premium - it's not a £40 game with an optional £30 add on, it's a £70 game. One of my friends has BF3 but not Premium and he can't play with us most of the time because the original maps the game comes with only make up a small percentage of the maps you regularly play online. Other than Subway and occasionally Tehran highway, I can't remember the last time I played any of the other original maps.
