Hello there. I seem to be constantly struggling on my PS3 to get decent speeds of connection playing Gran Tourismo 5. I get disconnected reasonably regularly and it seems to take a long time loading in public lobbies etc.

So I was wondering how my connection compares to other peoples, and if I have the best equipment and set-up etc. Looking for any advice really, the less technical the better smile but I realise that maybe the connection speed in my area (we only have BT standard lines) might be the limiting factor.

My router is a Netgear Rangemax Dual Band Wireless Modem Router, which I hoped was pretty good, but could I do better?

My connection is wired with an ethernet cable direct from the router to the PS3.

On the PS3 network setting test I get the following results:

Download: 8.8 mbps / 10.1 mbps
Upload : 354 kbps / 768 kbps
(I did two tests 10 mins apart, and got these two different readings)
Nat type 2

Weirdly, using speedtest on my desktop computer (an iMac) which is wired directly to the same router I consistently get:

Download: 11..06 mbps
Upload: 0.84 mbps (840 kbps)

Any help or advice greatly appreciated. Cheers.

doubt its your download speed tbh as it seems good but more likely to be the settings on your router, i knew a few people with this issue but unfortunately cant remember what settings they found that worked

Your speeds are the same as mine. Upload is a bit higher at 1k.
I had loads of trouble with a Motorola router and after some Googling I saw I was not alone. I couldn't have any other PC or thingy on the network or it tripped me out. I also had NAT3 so I had to change to pass through (NAT1) but this improved it but didn't solve it.
I have now changed my router and I was straight in at NAT2 and i have had no issues at all even with my daughter's multitude of thingys on the network.
I am in Switzerland also.
