You can tell it is a new console year as PC games look lightyears beyond consoles at the moment. I have been hearing rumours about Valve's new steam box being a mix between a console and a PC. What I like about it is that it looks like it will be console sized and fully upgradable.

Does anyone else have any information on it good or bad?

It is bound to be both accessible to the casual user as well as easily modifiable to custom coders and hardware fanatics.
Valve are notoriously tight-lipped on any project of theirs but they rarely make mistakes.
It'll be good, maybe even a complete game changer. They need to make sure to get the jump on Microsoft though, if they have any chance of competing.

It's very exciting.

1080p is not hard for a modern graphics card.
Running Linux allows the install of stuff like xbmc and TV apps, music, photo etc. A slick interface makes it a more open ATV. This will be download only though, it will take living room gaming where the consoles fear the tread.

When I upgrade my PC this one is going to go into the Cinema room and run games in there.

Not enough info out there yet but it seems like a cross between a pc and console, not sure what their market it. If buying a console I'd go with established brands like xbox or playstation and I already have a gaming pc.

I guess they are going for a PC in the loungeroom. That's fine by me. I'm due a PC this year so I might hold off and see what this is about. I was going to build one for my loungeroom anyway but the size and price is what I am interested in here.

I think their market is me!

Always bought consoles, never gamed on a pc. If their upgrades are structured and well defined and a nice console like menus and all the bonus of pc games then I will get one over an Xbox or ps3. Quite looking forward to see what it is. Will my G27 work on it smile

G27 - yes it will, well my g25 works with steam games on PC.

They have just introduced a specialist controller friendly interface on the pc version of steam.

So I think you are good!

Will he sticking to the pc thanks. I would love to see their box handle stuff like Rome 2, there's a reason why modern gfx cards are half the size of an Xbox.
