PSN Down?

I tried logging on last night and just now and apparently the PSN is down for maintenance. Is anyone else getting this message?

Same, I tried yesterday at around 4pm and got the same.

Just what we need when we are snowed in!

This morning, the @PlayStationEU account announced, "Unfortunately scheduled PSN maintenance has over-run. The service is not expected to return until 18.30GMT. Apologies for the inconvenience."

12 hours of work that should have finished at 0400 GMT today, so already 18 hours over due as of 2200, now not until tomorrow.

Guessing someone's days gone badly with the planned work, still not the end of the world.

I'm a nuts and bolts sort of guy so can someone explain what kind of maintenance they do to their servers or whatever they are

It's back up now. It seems that if you'd signed into your ps3 between 15th jan and when the maintenance started, you would still have been able to play online.

Signed in and left the playstation on to keep it signed in.
Planned Maintenance should be better advertised on psn rather than people finding out when it doesn't work and they try to sign in/play online.
