Obama Urges $10 Million to Study Video Games and Violence

Link to article

Wall Street Journal Article said:
In a highly-anticipated press conference Wednesday morning to address gun violence in the United States, President Barack Obama called for the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to renew scientific inquiry into the relationship between “video games, media images, and violence,” and urged Congress to support a bill that would grant the organization $10 million to conduct this new research.
So, it's not real guns that kill people, it's pixels. After playing Far Cry 3 this afternoon for some unknown reason I fancied a crazed rampage through my local Blockbusters. It was closed. So, I had a cup of tea instead.

Was always going to happen, though. Mind you, for decades they blamed ADND and heavy metal on suicides and such.

wow obama is an idiot who's jumped on the band wagon of blaming video games for their violence, first they blamed violent movies then it was rock/heavy metal till countless studies showed that they didnt cause it now it's games.

I've played games for most of my life and im sure ive played most of the violent video games that ever came out but i've never had any ideas of going out and murdering anyone, what makes obama even more stupid is that there has been plenty of in depth studies to see if games are linked to violence and every one of them has came back saying no so why spend $10 million on such a stupid thing thats already been done when your country is in a recession is beyond me.

I remember a study that showed america had 4700 school shootings compared to iirc 70 in canada where there is more guns/person than in america so the problem isnt guns or video games but america's culture seems to be the main cause of it but they dont want to admit to it so will happily blame everything else even though there is evidence proving them wrong.

anyway rant over smile

Blokes an idiot.

It's obviously the drinking age.

UK 18 very few gun crimes, USA 21-25 lots more massacres.

Government logic at its best. wink

Yes I believe the American Civil War was caused by the founding fathers playing Call of Duty.

It'll shut the NRA gimps up for now, and placate them for a while until the next scapegoat is trotted out. Seems like a smart move to me - he's going along with their BS while simultaneously making it look like a fair and open forum.
Which means it'll be some tweaks to gaming age certification and the already proposed gun control stuff getting pushed through, or they'll prove the link between COD and dead school kids is as tenuous as suspected and use it as irrefutable evidence that the NRA is wrong so the gun control stuff should be tightened further still.

Beats trying and failing to take on the real problems like access to mental healthcare, keeps the NRA quiet for a bit, and gets some good PR. $10m well spent in Obama's opinion, I should think.

yeah well, I was on a mostly american computer game site earlier and there was a poll

does playing violent video games make you violent?

- yes, i have actually gone out and got into a fight becuase I was playing a violent game
that one had over 500 votes on it.

the one with the most votes tho, was
- no, its a game and doesnt affect me atall

so that shows, there are plenty of people out there who would go out and kill just cause they did it on CoD.

but then again, the majoraty of 'mericans are so idiotic its amazing.(was in florida and an 20 odd y/o american saw a lizard run past and she said to her mum "gee, was that a aligata mum" so have seen some of there r-tardedness first hand.

If you think someone mistaking one breed of reptile for another is sufficient to judge a nation of 300 million people, the inability to spell simple words like 'though' and 'majority' would mean you've single handedly set the whole of humanity back tens of thousands of years.
