We have a UK built Xbox, but we live in the Philippines, which has mainly US made games for sale. I've bought three or four games here, and a couple in the USA, and they worked okay, but I just bought Doom 3 and it tells me it is the wrong region. $30 down the toilet...

Is there any easy way to make the Xbox360 read different regions, like you can do with a normal DVD player?

Unless you install a modchip I don't believe that you can.

http://team-xecuter.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=... if that is your thing. I gave up a long time ago as I couldn't be bothered to continually mess around when new updates came / I went online etc..

ooer, that all looks a bit complicated. yikes Might be safer to leave it as is.

Funny, but only the one game has failed to play. I used to have a list of compatible 'region open' games but can't remember where it is now.

A flashed xbox is the only way I am afraid.

The advantage to that, is you get free games and you can modify a lot of games wink

So, er, what is the downside of this? I can't imagine it is all good news.

Games take forever to download, if you don't have the correct flash you will be console banned, it is quite complicated when you get in to it.

etc.

We don't do on-line gaming, the web is too slow over here, but it is connected for any upgrades to games etc.

Hmm.
Games are normally between 6-15GB each so if you have a slow connection it could take days to download, which renders a flashed xbox useless for that reason.

I THINK you can still get a multi region flash, been ages since I have done it though. I'll look around for you.

Can I play foreign games when my Xbox 360 has been flashed?

Yes you can. Though the hack on the Xbox 360 is not a multi region hack. Games from America can be patched to the region of your console and played. So if you bought retail games in America and tried to play them in your European console, they would not work. You would have to read them into a PC, extract the security sectors, patch the game to your region, then write the game to disc.

Another method of playing foreign games is by having your Xbox360 Jtagged. This method allows games to run from hard drive from any region. You cannot however play on XBOX LIVE with a JTAGGED Xbox360.

Microsoft do scan for modified consoles and do remotely lock out people misusing their software. If that happens, you'll be buying a new Xbox anyway.

This indeed. In my opinion, it's not worth it. I couldn't have an xbox that couldn't go online; would like be having a computer or phone without the Internet, pretty pointless in my view.

Cheers, that' s useful spreadsheet. It does actually say that the NTSC Doom 3 I bought should play on our UK Xbox, but it doesn't. frown

I've bought several other games that worked, Halo 4, Gears of War 3, Call of duty etc.

Update. I found a local place that 'jail broke' it for me, put some new software in, now it plays any region and I can also save games completely to the hard drive, no disc required to play. I have no guilt, every game I possess is a genuine high dollar purchase, some are over £40 even where I live.

The store did show me a list of bootlegs, for a quid each, but I refrained. biggrin
