Aliens Colonial Marines...oh dear.
Discussion
Was it ported from the original Xbox or PS2? Only played it for 15 mins and despite not being a graphics w
e, it looks really, really bad on the 360.It has some of the worst jagged edges and flattest most boring textures I have ever seen.
The leaping aliens also don't look too special (one jumped through a door several seconds after I closed it) and shooting them up close resulted in an animation you could expect on the SNES.On the plus side, I came across some squad members at the start of the game and if they are in your way, you can just walk right through them.No need to worry about all that collision detection rubbish!
The PC version had better vastly improve on this or there will be a lot of unhappy people out there.

I'm a bit concerned about this too; it's receiving a lot of hype lately and that usually signifies a game or movie that isn't so great.
I want this game to be brilliant, and I remember having high hopes for it several years ago when it was first announced - it was set to be similar to Brothers in Arms in that you have a squad with you throughout that you direct around, order to take cover, attack, all that sort of thing.
Looking at previews it appears to be just a generic FPS now, which is concerning as it'll likely be just like the Marine missions in Aliens vs Predator. It's had a rocky production as well which never bodes well; I'm pretty sure it was canned at one point fairly early on, then picked up again by Gearbox who have finished it off and probably changed it to meet modern interests.
We shall see though, as much as I want it this is one I won't be rushing out to buy, I'll sit and wait for the reviews first before shelling out.

At least the 4 DLC packs are already lined up. They can be yours for a m"mere" 2400msp

Anyone remember the days that the disc or cartridge you bought actually contained the full game?

I remember when you'd just get "proper" expansions - ie, a whole boatload of content for £8-10.http://www.trueachievements.com/n12231/aliens-colo...

It seems that games are now planned around DLC. Designers will argue that they only selling extra content, but I'd be amazed if they didn't hold back on ideas just because they'd be great to flog as DLC.
As for 'Day 1' DLC, don't get me started. That's just total bulls
t and they know it, especially in games like ME3 when the DLC was absolutely critical to the overall story arc. /threadtangent
Hmm..
Had high hopes for this game but sounds like it's a bag of s
t like I expected it probably would be. Told you all that Sega only publish s
t these days...
Such a shame there has never really been a decent Alien based game. There is so much potential to produce something fantastic.. really dark and scary but they are all the same. Repetetive rubbish with poor graphics, poor story and poor gameplay.

Alien 3 on the SNes or the first two AvP games on the PC were pretty good

Really?
Looks like the Alien 3 I had on the game gear. I don't remember it being very good.
I also had alien trilogy on the Saturn. Again, I don't remember it being very good.

I fired the grenade launcher and actually burst out laughing at the resulting half second yellow flash/blob that appeared on the screen.I kid you not, you will have seen similar on the C64.I guess in coop it might still be a laugh, but as a single player game, so far, I have not felt even the slightest bit scared and on a harder setting I've not had to panic once. It's really been a case of stand there, wait for them to wobble their way towards you, fire and wait again.
I hope it gets better.

So you clearly missed that they publish Creative Assembly's stuff and their award winning RTS series? Plus they have just purchased Relic who also produce award winning RTS games. Had high hopes for this game but sounds like it's a bag of s

It did concern me at the lack of reviews and demo though. From my experience games that haven't been released to magazines for reviews have usually turned out to be turds.
Reviews are embargoed (sp?) till Tuesday.
I've seen some videos of this game and they didn't really make me want to buy it. Shame really as I've been aware of this for years and have been looking forward to it.
