I grew up with PC gaming but gave up and went consoles about 5 years ago.

However I'm looking at buying a PC soon for general work/video editing/whatever and a laptop is tempting. I'd also like to be able to play games, obviously not at max quality, but better than DirectX 8 on low settings. I miss PC gaming and I know a laptop won't match a desktop but perhaps the gap has closed these last few years?

I fact.. what is desktop PC graphics like these days? Any great games coming along that would make it worth me getting a desktop PC with top end graphics card? The steam seems to have fallen out of the PC graphics since the days of 3dfx and Geforce.

And finally, what will Oculus Rift work for - the PC or console. This will make a difference to my decision since I really want one.

I bought a laptop from pcspecialist mainly for music but it has a geforce 555 graphics card in it so pretty good for gfx. Anyway it ran Crysis in one down from highest graphics level and all racing games I try in pretty much maximum graphics. Very impressive and no need for a desktop any more either. Definitely look them up!
