Fallout 3 on Windows 8

So today I got the itch to play Fallout 3 again.

Reinstalled it via Steam, no dice. No worky, grumbling about not being able to find ordinal 42 in \some\path\or\other\xlive.dll.

Fix: get the GFWL client from here:

http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/Live/PC/DownloadClient

and manually install it.

I've had loads of problems playing it on my Windows 7 partition on my MBP despite New Vegas playing fine. It would play fine for 5-10 minutes then lock up for seemingly no reason. I needed to disable to of my four cores and download a lot of codecs to get it working.

Find the FalloutLauncher.exe and Fallout3.exe files and set their compatibility mode to Windows XP SP3.

My FO3 is working flawlessly.

Surprised some passing mod didn't move this to the Computer Games forum because it mentions a game in the title.

They're nothing if not consistent. And this is nothing like consistent.

It would be great to play on the 2 x 3hr train journeys I take each week. I still need to get that final Bobblehead!

Always remember to get the Bobblehead from Megaton *before* you blow it up.
