So, I'm an avid gamer, of all formats and the majority of genres. I've found, of late, that major titles are just the same regurgitated tripe year on year. Sure, there are a few exceptions, I thoroughly enjoyed Far Cry 3, Dishonoured, Xcom but really, the games that have held my attention, and are the most innovative, are Indie titles.

Maybe it's the rise of Kickstarter and Steam Greenlight, maybe it's just guys that code on their own, with no coporate thumb and no deadline can be more intuative and resourceful?

Anyway, I thought I'd not a few Indie titles that have really been outstanding recently, and see if anyone else can suggest anymore?

FTL (Faster Than Light) - They call it a 'Roguealike', really it means when you're dead, you're dead! It's a starship game, jumping from sector to sector, managing systems, crew, weapons. This was without question my game of the year, last year.

Hotline Miami - An uber violent top down shooter (soon to be on PS3) with one of the best soundtracks I've heard in a while. It's bright, fast, hard and superb.

Don't Starve - Not released yet, but in late stage Beta - a noire-esque setting with wierd and wonderful creatures where the idea really is, to not starve! Light, hunger, sanity, health, all need to be finitely managed while exploring a vast world.

Project Zomboid - An isomentric zombie survival game, been in development for so long yet still feels fresh and interesting. Like Don't Starve the protagonist must explore to gather food, medicine, weapons and supplies to baricade or fight to survive.

Spelunky (XBLA) - Started out as a PC game, MS bought the rights to an HD version - it's superb and VERY hard. A simple platform game with so many dangers it'll have you controller raging in no time.

There are countless more, can anyone suggest some good ones to look at?

Dungeons of Dredmor

Terraria

These are both brilliant.

I'd recommend Binding of Isaac, Braid and Limbo.
