Trophy / Achievement competition ?
Discussion
Anyone up for this ?
Trophies and Achievements are pretty pointless unless their is some sort of competition, so lets make a competition!
We can all sync our trophies by Friday at 6PM and then the winner will be whoever improves their score over say the next 4 weeks ?
There is this site for the Playstation users.
http://psnprofiles.com/ Just enter your PSN and it will pull up your profile.
The PSN give 15 points for a bronze, 30 for a silver, 90 for a gold and 180 for a platinum.
You could of course go and buy something like Hannah Montana that will be easy trophies, and that would be fair enough, but remember that means you will have a record of you somewhere buying Hannah Montana... So on balance probably not worth it..
We will also mock you. Badly
Don't buy Hannah Montana.
I don't know what Xbox people will use or how your achievements are scored... But their must be a way for us to include both console users ?
I have a BIG backlog of games and something like this might be the impetus some of us need to actually get round to playing our backlog!
If you're up for it add your PSN / XBox Username. If we get enough people we can work out the details / when to start / when to end etc.

Would be better tied to a specific game I think, someone going for platinum on Dark Souls vs. someone trying for the same on Lego Batman 2 is going to be there a hell of a lot longer. I spent a couple of years trying for achievements then realised I wasn't enjoying the games anymore and it was becoming a chore, so I've given up keeping tabs on them now.
trueachievements.com does much the same for Xbox achievements.
It has an adjusted score for each achievement, to reflect what percentage of registered players who have played that game have unlocked it. It also has some very helpful guides for how to unlock achievements.
Well worth a look if you're into achievement hunting......

Ah, managed to find the score in numbers rather than level on PSNProfiles.
Polished off the Shift 2 Platinum trophy today, so I'm now at 41,115 points.

As for some games being easier than others - I agree, but keep in mind that playing a s
t and easy game for 5/10 hours to get the platinum is going to be a much bigger chore than playing a good one for 20. I tried playing through some games I wouldn't have considered purely because they were supposed to be easy platinums, but I gave up after a couple - I'd sooner plow 60-100 hours into something like Dark Souls or Skyrim than play another 5 hours of Prince of Persia or Tomb Raider, even if it meant losing an informal competition on the internet.

Regardless of what you'd rather play, it's a competition at the end of it, so someone who enjoys playing the likes of Tomb Raider or one of the Lego games is going to come off better and the results are going to be skewed. Add in the fact that some people might be able to play for 40 hours a week and someone else might only get 4 hours and it's even more pointless. We do seem to be agreeing with one another though, in that we've both gone for achievements/trophies in the past, even though it's a totally pointless exercise and we've both found out that we'd rather be playing games we enjoy.
LandR, I'd suggest picking an upcoming game (Bioshock Infinite maybe) and challenging people to get the platinum/1000 points on it. Once they've done it they can submit a photo of the tally and one of the game time played, that way someone who has less time per week can still compete with someone who has no job, even if it takes them 2 months longer overall.
