For some reason I am not fussed about it, no idea why as I loved the first three. Look forward to reading everyone's thoughts though.
Yeah i loved the others but after playing the demo last night i was a bit yeah t`s aaaalright but nowt to jump about for , so yeah want to see what people think before i buy Been enjoying the OverRun demo this week. Who knew being a Wretch could be so much fun! And then when you've earned enough for a Corpser, brilliant.
I've played Gears since it came out and the campaign modes have always been fantastic IMO. They've certainly changes aspects of the gameplay with this one, but atleast it's not CTRL+C, CTRL+V like the COD fellas do every 12 months.
I'll be buying it at some point this weekend and probably have a campaign marathon on Sunday.

Girlfriend pursuaded me to buy Gears3... Still hasn't played beyond the first stranded outpost. Not buying judgement until she completes it... probably
It is 'supposed' to be a bit different, but in terms pf campaign they didn't really deliver anything different other than weapons and a couple of different locust. The story is no where near any of the previous games. It follows Baird as the main character, with Sofia, Cole and Paduk telling their side of the story in a military court room (hence 'Judgement' being the name of the game) and you play their story.
I managed to complete it on hardcore starting from the beginning yesterday (although I was on co-op on Live). And at no point was it getting really difficult. Even the final boss was very meh. The story was the let down though. Previously they followed a very good story line and it made sense. This one seemed rushed and was over too quickly leaving questions. Yes, I watched all the cut scenes!
I thought this one was going to be a good prequel, leading the story up to how Baird and Cole met up with Dom and Marcus in Gears 1, but it was off on a bit of a tangent inly with hints to previous games.
I'm enjoying the online gameplay though, so will keep to that for a while before I trade it in for a new game at some point.

So far, I am finding this the most compelling GOW by some margin. It didn't have much to live up to after the dramatic flop of GOW3. That game was a bit of a turkey, managing to blow the narrative momentum of the first two games.
Judgement takes off a different tack though, and is all the better for it. The story is stripped back, though it's no less compelling for it. I've not finished it yet, though I am enjoying the 'testimony' aspect of the narrative progression.
The premise of the game is simple design for GOW veterans. The level design is excellent. Each chapter is broken up into several small firefights, each enclosed in very well designed levels that are appealing in both a visual and tactical sense. You're dropped straight into the action, partaking in firefights that in other GOW games would be setpiece events. The declassified missions are a cool idea too, they basically act as hadicaps on the missions to improve your score but add a really interesting edge, like having to complete a vicious firefight with nothing but pistols, or battling through vision obscuring dust. I am slightly less enamoured with the time limited declassified missions.
It's basically a Gears action buffet. Definitely not an ideal starting point for a GOW noob, but for an experienced hand it will provide much joy. Baird always was my favourite. It also includes a download code for the first GOW, should one fancy some nostalgia!

Had a decent run into the campaign at the weekend and on the whole, I like it. Feels pretty hectic and arcadey as opposed to the slightly slower gameplay of 1,2 and 3 (I would always go with longshot/torque bow and lancer, now I am leaning towards a shotgun at all times for example) - some of the declassify options are pretty fun too - can see them being a bit tough on insane. I can't say I am a fan of the shorter missions, each one seems to only take a handful of minutes, whereas the previous games felt much more plodding (in a good way), but I suppose it adds to the arcade nature of the game. New weapons - don't really notice them, which may be a good thing - I do like the semi-auto sniper and like the beefed up shotguns.
On the whole, the story is nothing on 1, 2 or 3, but the gameplay makes up for it - I think 1 and 2 still have it on a mix of gameplay and storyline, but this is much more fun than 3.

I think this is why I didn't initially enjoy it as much. I kept thinkin when is something interesting going to happen or when will we need a vehicle, boat or even submarine like on GOW3 and travel somewhere else whilst defending it.Parsnip said:

The Markza is a good weapon, but takes way to many shots to kill on Hardcore, the Breechshot is the one I like, not so good over a long distance but always a one shot kill to the head or two shots to body and of course the good old Longshot. If there's some close quarters battling the Retro Lancer coupled with the Sawed-Off, this combo has a lot of power and kills quickly. If you come across a bunch of Bloodmounts (Locust riding the back of a large thing that attacks you) that take ages to kill, the Sawed-Off Shotgun will take care of them pretty sharpish. On Insane it looks seriously hard, there is no being 'downed' where a team mate can revive you, when you receive the damage you die and the threshhold for the amount of damage you can receive is very low.

I think the only real down point I can put on Judgement is the story to it. That's what I love about Gears campaigns, a long winded, but brilliant story. This one isn't that, it's more arcade style like you said with some back story thrown in. I think I was bit quick to dismiss the campaign because of that, but the gameplay is a lot of fun, has some great cut scenes, brilliant scenery and different aspects to it that weren't present on the last one with the declassified missions.
Well, the demo overun is the most addictive game I've played in years, very enjoyable. Will probably download the proper one onto the xbox by the end of the week.
I find it sad how few people play this game online compared to the likes of COD when this has a far more dynamic multiplayer, much more interesting and fun.
Finding the new wall bouncing brilliant to, the physcs are much more easy to get on with although sniping seems a lot more difficult.
