Hi all

Not sure if anyone can help me with this. I have Steam on my PC, it automatically starts up when I turn my PC on. For the past few months every time I turn my PC on i get an error message from Steam Saying:

Connection Error
It appears you are not currently connected to the internet,or that your internet connection is not configured correctly for Steam.
Check your connection or hit retry.

Retry never works so i click Start in offline mode.

Nothing that I can recall happened, that I know of, to cause this - i am always connected to the internet. i can still play the games from my steam account but obviously can' get updates or download any games etc.

I am a complete PC pleb.....I appreciate any advice but talk to me like you are talking to a small child !!

I think the best thing I can do is delete Steam from my PC and reinstall ??

Ta for any help.

Try opening Steam, going to the 'Steam' menu in the top left, then interface, then untick 'Run Steam when my computer starts'. Restart your computer, wait a few minutes, then start Steam and see if it connects (no doubt it will update itself).

Mine started doing the same a little while ago, and I think in my case at least, its down to the router not getting connected to the internet before the PC has booted and STEAM is looking for a connection.

In other words I'd have my router and PC switched off at the wall, and when I went to power them up the PC would boot up just before the router made a connection with the internet, so STEAM was online and looking for a connection that wasn't quite there, thus throwing up that error you mentioned.

I don't get this error if my router is already on and connected when I switch my PC on.

Perhaps that is your problem if you are switching the router and the PC on at the same time?

For your info, ideally the router should be left on permanently...Unless your away for a lengthy period. Rebooting often can fool the system into thinking the connection is dropping, therefore automatically throttling the speed to increase stability.

As above. Causes problems switching off a router. Just leave it on. It will only use an extra £1 of electricity a year.
