xbox 360 slim pot mod?
Discussion
Anyone have any experience with the 360 slim consoles and the dvd drives?
Basically games and regular dvds run fine but films on dvdr's start stuttering half way through giving an unreadable error. Through searching I found it is probably the laser not strong enough on the dvd drive so I tested the resistance on the dvd diode but it was well below 3ohms. Reading guides it says not to turn it down to below 3ohms but it was already set on around 2.4. Still, I turned it down to around 2 but it has made zero difference.
Do I just have a bad drive or are the slims notoriously poor at playing burned media? I could get a replacement off ebay for 25 quid but not worth it if I will get the same issue.
Thanks in advance.

Don't you turn it up? I did mine years ago and 3.4 rings a bell.
Hi – no you have to turn it down. I believe 3.2ohms referred to the older Xbox’s drives which start off life at 5 or 6ohms – it doesn’t look like the Slims respond well to adjusting the diode as they are already set low. It just looks like mine is not that great… it doesn’t make sense that it will read a DVDR fine for an hour and then suddenly start playing up.Slink said:
your saying DVDR's, does that mean you are trying to play a dvd that you have burnt in the xbox?
try burning it again, but at a lower speed, sometimes that works for old pc an laptops.
Hi - yeah I'm trying to play an old DVD I burned on my Xbox - it works fine in PC etc. Tbh anything now I just use a flash drive - just a pain not being able to play older DVDR's I have. try burning it again, but at a lower speed, sometimes that works for old pc an laptops.

If it point blank refused to play it fair enough but a few times I'm half way through something and then brrrrrr 'attempting to read media' brrrr stutter brrrrr 'attempting to read media' arrrrghhh ffs.
