For anyone not aware, Colin McRae Rally has been released for iPhone by Codemasters.

Linky

This is what I remember as the defining rally game on the previous generations of console. All the others since have just fallen flat.

Great way to spend £2.99 and recapture a bit of magic from games gone by. Looks great too.

More devs should be porting old gen games to IOS, GTA was brilliant and this looks just as good, much better than some of the half-baked new mobile games that come out.

It's actually Colin McRae Rally 2, but I'd say that was one of the best in the series.

Actually annoyed it's CM2! The training school in number 1 was great fun.

Used to love the original 'Rallycross' on PS1.

So what do the controls feel like as some games on iPad and iPhone can obviously be a bit funny.

I downloaded this a couple of days ago and am loving it so far - makes my morning train journey fly past.

The controls are pretty good. Accelerator and brake icon on bottom right of screen (and handbrake) and left/right steering on bottom left of screen. They work like I remember on the PS1 in that you basically flick the car into a slide and then tap the accelerator or steering to change the angle, etc.. with occasional use of the brake on the tighter corners.

Only gripe is that every time I go over a jump too fast the car twists in mid-air into a barrell roll.. But still huge fun nonetheless.
