Can't find a thread on this..

But X:Rebirth is out on the 15th of November. First decent looking space-sim for a long while, and certainly should bridge the gap until Star Citizen comes out in 2015...

First Trailer:

Scope of the game is very impressive:

Might need a new GFX card though :/

Really don't like the look of it at all, especially to what limited stuff has been released for Star Citizen. I'd rather just save my money and wait for the dogfighting beta for Star Citizen. The in-station graphics just look like they've been thrown together as well and the fact that you can't change ships...no thank you.

cool, I've always liked the X games...the only issue is really how much time you have to put into it to get anywhere, it's not really a casual game if you want to see anything other than your first ship.

Got into X3:AP recently as only ever dabbled in the older versions, I hope they rectify some of the inadequacies of the older games such as really crappy AI.

It'd be good if some of these use gigantic complexes can be built or owned by players at really high levels, scalability of your 'empire' kind of has a bit of a ceiling beyond building stations/complexes.

I think it is one of very few games you can genuinely turn the game in a direction you want, from building a commercial empire to destroying everything and everyone >biggrin

I got into this when X3 Reunion came out - spent loads of time on that game. Haven't gotten into Terran Conflict or Albion Prelude to the same extent but that may just be because they're basically the same game as X3:R, not enough new/different stuff. Have to say I am looking forward to Rebirth though.

I've not kept up with the forums/website for a while now, what is "Star Citizen"?

I've owned a few X games but never had the time or effort to really get involved up until recently. Played X3:AP and thoroughly enjoyed building up my empire although it is very frustrating in many areas.

Looking forward to Rebirth, hoping it has addressed some issues. Id be happy if it was just a more polished version of AP.

I upgraded from a 470GTX to a 770GTX and found no real difference with X3. I believe it to be a game that just uses a single core so it seems more reliant on a decent CPU.

Wait, what? Is that true? If so that's pretty naff, half the fun in the old game was getting the coin together to upgrade your ship or buy new ones.

I'm sure they wouldn't make it ruin the experience, you can still command other ships it seems and control drone which are supposedly going to play a much larger part.

Just bumping this as I'm getting oddly excited about the pending arrival of Rebirth next Friday. It looks stunning (well, out of the stations at least, inside it's embarrassing!)

The game-play looks great with lots of options despite the hate about not being able to fly the capital ships directly.

I always struggled to get into the previous X games although recently I fired up Albion Prelude to get my eye back in and I think they've made good gains in that one and Rebirth is a full overhaul so should be much more accessible.

I have been thinking of getting this - I have all the other X's, but have never quite been able to give the time to crack them - I never really know what I should be doing, and that's a shame, because I am sure there's quite a game under there somewhere.

Wonder if this new one will be more 'accessible' for those of us who haven't got multiple hours per day game time spare...

I've been keeping an eye on this for some time now, and it does interest me and I'll no doubt buy it, but I'm wondering how I'll take it - I don't appear to have the patience I did when I first got into PC gaming and played X2 I think it was. Back then I was happy to sit back and spend quite some time ferrying between jumpgates, nowadays if something doesn't grab my attention quickly I tend to get bored.

Does anyone remember playing Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos? It came out around the same time as X2 and although similar, seemed to be more combat focused. I loved that at the time, but playing it again last year I realised just how boring it was spending soooooo long moving from system-to-system. As the map expanded, so did your time spent cruising across systems to get to the next jump gate. I got bored after a while and gave up - again. I never did complete that game.

That's my worry, back when I started playing X:BtF I was a student and had loads of free time so could spend hours at it, but now it's a quick hour here or there a few times a week I'm not sure I can really invest the time in it.
Hopefully it's something I can dip into, but I've been stung a couple of times with new releases now so I'll wait a few months for a patch or two hehe

I bought Albion Prelude on a whim, on an afternoon when I had nothing to do, so thought I'd just sit back, relax and enjoy the experience (I do have a soft spot for this type of game). However, talk about making you jump in at the deep end - I didn't have a clue from the off, and no pointers were forthcoming, and it wasn't through lack of trying. The games are quite inaccessible for 'older' casual gamers, and I think that's sad because I am stone cold sure that those of us in their '40's would lap these up 'IF' they just included a decent tutorial, and not cater to the fan boy's (a small niche of gamers in a very small niche market of games!) as much...

It's on my Stesm wish list, still unsure if I'll take the plunge. Played X3 Reunion for a bit when it came out but found the pace too turgid and it wasn't the most accessible of games.

But I am a sucker for pretty space graphics... scratchchin

It's quite expensive for a PC game @ £40, so I'm going to wait for reviews before picking it up.

It is annoying the makers don't do it themselves but it was YouTube tutorials that got me going again. Played it for weeks building massive complexes, but alas still ended getting a bit bored with the perceived 'ceiling' of stuff to do.

Apprehensive about this now but looking forward to it. Just hope it's easier to pick up and play than the previous x games... started playing freelancer again last night completed the single player campaign in under 6 hours.

Back when the first one came out I actually liked the fact that after a ten minute flying tutorial you were dumped in the middle of nowhere with 100 credits and left to your own devices, even the manual said 'Spoliers ahead' before the section explaining what the equipment did! These days I'm not so sure about if I'd enjoy doing that, I remember buying some factory in one of the follow up games (X2 I expect) only to find later on it couldn't really make a profit. Felt sick that I'd wasted so much time, whereas before it would've been something to learn from.
Maybe I'm getting old!
