GTA 5 sept 17 Midnight launch
Discussion
Never been to a midnight launch.
Actually that's a lie.
Pre-ordered Call of Duty MW3 and was going to pick it up in the daytime, but I was really ill that night and had to nip out to get some more bog roll (don't ask). So I bought the game at the same time (about 00:30!) although I don't think it counts...

tescos may be your best bet.
i remember going for mw3, i drove past game/blockbuster etc in town and the ques were massive, must of been 100+ people standing in the cold and rain, went to tesco, where there was maybe 25 people standing in the nice warmth at the entrance, although a stampede broke out when the woman came wheeling a trolley, everyone made a sprint for the trolley, the store assistant just pushed the trolley down the aisle and left after everyone ran at her.
the silly part of this was... there were more than enough games for everyone, yet people were still rustling to get their copy, after the stampede was over everyone had to wait at the self check-outs anyway, while one poor woman had to run around taking the security case of every one. it was amusing but completely pointless, by the time i got home i was tired and went to bed, and just played it the next day.

went in and reserved a copy from game, they said they were doing a midnight release, ive never been to a midnight release but im looking forward to it.
Only time I've ever been to one was for GTA:IV, which was at Zavvi, they let us in at about 11:30pm and they had all the demo booths in the store setup with the game for people to play. Quite a good atmosphere, but I'm getting my copy in the post this time. No less excited for it mind.Game are doing a midnight release here in bridgwater but i am picking my copy up from just down the street from an independent game shop. Last midnight release i went to (BF3) i felt mega out of place pulling up outside GAME in a 306DT dressed head to toe in full desert 95 rig including tac vest and helmet!!!!
Didn't help that after 5 minutes in the line, 3 half pissed squaddies tipped up and started chatting away asking all sorts of questions. Also had who i think was a scruffy ex pongo telling me how he thought i was a disgrace all under the eye of some coppers (1 being an RMP!) Needless to say i got the game and thinned out pretty sharpish.

I queued up at Tesco for the GTA4 midnight launch.
It was when Tesco (or at least my local) didn't stock PS3 games.
Chap a bit further down the line had queued for over an hour (sneaking out of a night shift), got to the front of the queue and asked for a PS3 copy.
The police had been asked to be there in case of any trouble erupting from us bunch of excited nerds.
Think I'll just order on shopto this time!

I've never been to a midnight launch. I have however disrupted one. I was driving through St Albans town centre at about 11.00 one evening when I spotted a camouflaged Hummer with roof mounted gun being driven into the Maltings shopping centre along with 3 soldiers following on foot. Being the good citizen, and fearing the Russians were invading, I called the local cop shop and explained what I had just witnessed.
After a couple of cars had turned up carrying quite a few officers I received a call back to let me know it was the new Modern Warfare launch and the Hummer was making an appearance outside the local Game.
Being a keen gamer you'd think I would know this, expecially as 3 of my close friends had told me they were going to at an hour before!
