Hi guys.

Besides "here all week, try the veal", I am considering a Wii for my little one's 5th. I've not been a gamer since the ZX81/Spectrum/Atari ST days, but he loves Mario and the Wii looks like a giggle. Am I right in thinking that these three would do the job for two of us playing together:

Console £130
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nintendo-Console-White-Spo...

Extra remote £27
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nintendo-RVLAWRWA-Remote-P...

Game £37
http://www.amazon.co.uk/New-Super-Mario-Brothers-W...

Have I missed anything?

TIA

I think thats the old console isn't it??

Shouldn't matter to 5 yr old but there must be plenty of used ones about for a fraction of the price.

+controller +game

Ok, so backwards compatible but £50 cheaper?

Bump for the weekday crew. Do I want these three? Or is my seemingly simple plan that of a useless old fool (i.e. a Dad)?

Don't touch the Wii Mini with a barge pole, it's markedly inferior to the regular one. A regular Wii would be fine and there's a huge catalogue of games for it.

As has already been suggested, you can pick up a pre-owned one for much cheaper than a new one and you'll still get a years guarantee on it:

It's now been superseded by the Wii U, so there should be lots of bargains to be had.

Good idea for the little one!
I just bought one from ebay - lots on there. Got one plus 5 games and Wiifit exercise board for £35.
I'd been a PS3 man for many years.
It is showing it's age on big LCD TV's (no HDMI, get a cheap Component cable from amazon and it's much better - like £3) but is very entertaining for kids and a great back catalogue.
Games are also pretty cheap on ebay - good ones to recommend:

Mario Galaxy 2
Zelda: Skyward sword
Resident Evil 4 (not suitable for kids) but very good for you wink
Super Punch out

Thanks for the ideas. I now have a second hand Wii from Game.co.uk and am awaiting a new spare controller & Wii Play (I think it was) to muck about with. New Mario Bros is on it's way. And some more rechargeable AA batteries. Of course. Dad fail.

I work for cash converters

and that is a ridiculous price to pay for a wii.

i'm glad you saw sense and didnt go for it.

we currently have an over-stock on wii's - loads of parents are getting rid cause their kids played on it for a month and thats it.

we're pricing them in my store at £25 (inc the black one) for a wii with 12 months warranty (wii's are generally solid machines too)

wiimotes we do for £10 and nunchuck for £4 - wii fit board with game for £10 (in good nick too)

i'm not trying to sell anything i'm just giving you an idea of what you should be spending accessory wise

one thing i would recommend buying new is rechargable battery packs - well worth the money!
