GTA5 Graphics on my PS3 are stuttering
Discussion
Oddly I've just been reading up on this, seems the pS3 uses it's HDD as cache memory and of course GTA runs from the HDD as well as the disc - I guess if you're PS3 is older or had a harder life it's HDD could be less than fresh and causing the problem?
I'm thinking off installing a SSD to my PS3, it's meant to smooth things out on these really big games.
I've also read the game runs better if you switch your PS3 to 720p.

I get stuttering sometimes, how do you switch your Ps3 to 720p?I'm thinking off installing a SSD to my PS3, it's meant to smooth things out on these really big games.

PS3 uses SATA1, I don't think an SSD will help much. Maybe reduce load times but ingame I don't think it will do a lot. I've also read the game runs better if you switch your PS3 to 720p.
Xbox users are advised not to install Disc 2 (play disc) to the console, and have it running off the disc.

I was informed in the other thread that it makes no difference running your PS3 in 720p only. For what it's worth the jaggy edges on shadows and scenery is going to be there on the healthiest of consoles and best TV's, a game this big can't look much better on old hardware. Personally the "jaggies" don't bother me, I don't get any stuttering though.
I had the same problem. Horrible stuttering when doing anything walking, driving, cut scenes .... everything.
I found a fix for me and my setup and possibly you have the same issue?
First of All my setup:
PS3 Slim 120GB Latest Firmware
1.4 HDMI Cable running video and sound to TV
Disc Copy of GTA V
TV = Vizio 3D TV e3d470vx from Walmart.
Fix:
On the TV under Settings there is an Option called GAME MODE. It was set to OFF. Turned to ON and all problems FIXED. I read the manual and this setting is seperate to the actual "Picture" Settings of the TV but it actually controls "Smooth Motion" aspect of 120Hz TVs. I had originally set mine up as normal for watching Bluray with SMOOTH MOTION on and set to HIGH and PRECISION smoothing. GAME LOOKED HORRID and stuttered like crazy.
Apparently the GAME MODE setting on the TV disables smooth motion and allows the game to run at 60Hz and doesn't try to compute any smoothing. So I would imagine if you have a similar TV but not the GAME MODE option, simply turning OFF SMOOTH MOTION might fix your problem as well.
Anyways this may not help you at all but it would be worth a try as is very much so worked for me and my gaming experience on GTA V.
-Cheers

some people are complaining about Xbox stuttering. seems very hit and miss.
some are fine others have issues.
I get minor stuttering on my 360 in certain areas, particularly central los santos were the skyscapers and highway is during the daytime, I would put it down to the game pushing the console too hard.some are fine others have issues.
