As it says, went to play Team Fortress 2 tonight & Steam prompts me to install all 12 Gb of it! It was working fine yesterday! Looked in Program Files(x86)>Steam>Steamapps>common,and it is there, all 12 Gb,but n the game screen it says I have to install it.
Any ideas on how to get it back.Im sure Ive seen something about a cache, may be completely wrong of course(I often am!)
If I reinstall will it recognise I have it already or will it download & replace all files.Shame I will lose all my stuff.

See if you can run it from the main exe, it'll probably be called TF2.exe I guess, and that might resync things.

I would have expected it to be in the /common folder.

Sometimes it might be called launcher.exe or similar, but it will usually have a little TF icon for it, and might be one of the larger files in there.

- actually, just checked, you want to find the HL2.exe, which is the base half life 2 exe, which is what TF2 uses.

Check your -game paramater or VCONFIG setting"

No clue what that means,I suspect the laptop wil be onall night downloading, glad I have Sky unlimited BB

Have a look for the steam mover tool, it's for moving about the main directories of your downloaded games.
Something like that could get it working, also check in your steam settings it is looking in the right place.

Thanks for that TheEnd
If Im honest,I took 1 look at that mover tool, and was like a rabbit in the headlights-anything that has white text in a black box scares the crap out of me biggrin
So have left the laptop to download it ---currently discovering existing TF2 files,so I hope it wont take long

There used to be something along the line of validate an install, it sounds like it is doing that and will just replace any files that appear damaged or missing.
