Football Manager 2014
Discussion
Who else is ready to spend many hours shouting/screaming/turning the sodding computer off because you've lost against a crappy team?
I didn't really get into FM2013 (491 hours, compared to 1,500 for FM12 and FM11), yet have just downloaded FM14. I'm not even a huge football fan, but get obsessed with this bloody game!
Most likely going to start of as Southampton, although now they are in the Premiership, its not as fun as when they were in League One.

I'm spending so much time playing this I am seriously regretting buying it.
Although it's a good way to pass the cold dark nights.
Have Arsenal to the Champions League final and 2 wins from being Premier Legaue champions in my second season. Lewnadowski on a free has been the difference!

What tactics as I have really struggled with arsenal, I signed Ashley Williams for 4.7 he played well but everyone else I have struggled to get too play well Although it's a good way to pass the cold dark nights.

Signed Papadopolous from Schalke for defence (very good and gets better). I think I was lucky to still be in a job after 1st half of 1st season. I play 4-2-3-1. I was conceding loads but also scoring quite a lot. The difference was sorting out my training, mostly defending high intensity and throw in a week of attacking or tactics every 3 weeks and match prep was either defensive postioning or defending set pieces. They really seem to need a lot of defensive training. Control as mentality and balanced. Play out of defence, exploit flanks, tight marking, hassle opponents and stick to positions. If up against better oponents (Chelsea, Man Utd etc) the I go 4-1-2-2-1 and much the same as above.
Up against cannon fodder its usually 4-2-2-2 attacking and fluid.
I'm finding that training seems to have a much bigger impact than previous years so dont leave it to your assistant.
How is the new tactics system?
The sliders have always been a pain in my eyes, as they never really made that much sense (how much of an effect does each notch have, etc), so to hear they got rid of them sounds promising.
But how does it work? Does it restrict your control too much, or does the new improved shouts system work very well?

Basically it's the same instructions, but with words instead of sliders. I suppose it's more realistic, as you would never use a myriad of sliders to communicate with a bunch of sportsmen
Eg instead of the slider for defensive line, you can select push up, push much higher up, drop deeper, or drop much deeper.

I buy it every year and have done since Championship Manager, it's pretty much tradition.
I'm doing well at the moment. I picked Watford as they're local and their lack of money makes them a challenge. I won the Championship, finished 7th in the PL, finished 5th in the PL and now I'm 1st in the PL, Euro knockout stages and final of League Cup.
