You'll have to eventually as the games for the current gen will dry up. But I've no immediate plans to 'upgrade' anytime soon.
The PS4 launch video on Gamespot hardly blew me away. Ooh look, a FPS (which I love, btw) in a sci-fi setting. W00t. It looked good, yes, but not amazingly, £400 brilliant.

Videos won't show 60fps, but there's not a massive difference between current and next gen atm. Hasn't stopped me buying one, but I can see why folks are holding off.

Just been a bit underwhelmed by the videos I have seen, very pretty but if I didnt know they were a next gen console I am not sure I would have noticed.

Looking at this new generation in terms of graphics is a bit misleading. There won't be the massive jump like there was last time. Instead think about what developers will be able to do with physics, AI, massive open worlds. That's the stuff that this generation will be about i think.

Personal opinion right now - no; not bothering just yet.

Give them 6 months.

Not really yet. Agree with the 6 month thing above.

Then again - the SteamOS might be out then.

Just to pick out the first point you mention. In the past this has been true (although I still think they made PS2 games up until THIS year) but MS & Sony both said, despite there being a next gen console out, there is still a few years left in the current gen, and big titles are still being released on them (check out this Christmas' lineup) and you can see that the current gen consoles are still 'current'.

This, especially given the Sony 'blue light of death' embarrassment. Dead Rising 3 will still be around in 6 months time.

PS4 should be looking better thna the xbox but has a rather uninspired lineup.

Arstechnica had a review of the xbox and game lineup and a part from forza they couldnt really see an improvement in the graphics.

Hardly an embarrassment. Revised DOA rate is just under 1%. I'm led to believe by hardware geeks that this is an incredible achievement.

Just under 1%, so that's just under 10,000 consoles crapped out, what an incredible acheivement!

What do you think the usual RMA rate is of a product like this?

360 - 24% (54% initially)
PS3 - 10%
Wii - 2.7%

Good job by Sony.

I was blown away seeing this (Killzone PS4) in motion tbh. I've never seen any game look as good as it.

It looks very pretty, but by all accounts is quite dull to play. A bit like an evening of conversation with a supermodel. Still getting it as it's part of the bundle I've ordered, but Battlefield looks like it will be more fun to play.

Underwhelmend by what? A video review of the system? Or a video "screen capture" of gameplay. If it's the latter then you should try and see one in the flesh, as they are very good graphically.

Else it's a bit like watching a scene from a blue ray, but via youtube instead of on a full HD TV from a blueray. You'd be amazed how much videos online are compressed and they don't do justice to the next gen consoles IMO.

(I have first hand experience as I went to an exhibition and got hands on with both Xbox One and PS4, so I know what their graphics look like in the flesh.) smile

Exactly. A new complex mass produced product with 1% DOA is pretty good (certainly acceptable from a production point of view).

A bit like a very high end PC 2 years ago? (not a dig at the XBone or PS4, consoles by their nature will always be behind the bleeding edge. I'm frankly astonished at GTAV on the current generation..)

I've given up listening to reviews. Mass Effect is one of the most boring games I've played, but the series gets critical acclaim. Assassin's Creed is the same for me, utter crap. I've found much more enjoyment in games that are badly reviewed than I have with AAA blockbusters.
