IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad
Discussion
Its back!!
1C Games and 777 Studios (makers of Rise of Flight) have teamed up to remake the old classic IL-2.
I put loads of hours into the original whilst I should have been studying at college and this one looks like it will suck even more of my time!
Looks like it should test current rigs, these are screen shots from the pre-release testing and they are still working on a lot of the game.

Here is their trailer

Will be getting a copy tonight when Natwest have sorted their life out.

Just a heads up - this is now on Steam. I bought the game (took a chance after being burnt with the awful Cliffs of Dover), and have been having a play for the past couple of hours.
It is back! The same feeling I got when playing the original Il-2 for the first time. Very playable, even in beta stage, and still very enjoyable - even when using a 14 year old MS Sidewinder joystick!

I played CloD for a short time with a low budget stick but I found it very frustrating without a dedicated throttle and rudder plus controls for prop pitch etc. Really need these to make the most of a proper flight sim like this but my racing sim stuff takes enough space as it is
This looks much better than CloD ever became though, the Eastern Front is a far more interesting theater too.

CloD was/is a nightmare of a game, one of the biggest disappointments (up there with Tomb Raider - Angel of Darkness), game-wise.

I can confirm for sure that Battle of Stalingrad, even though it is only around 63% finished, is already much better than CloD. I have now played over 5 hours, and have been enjoying it as much as IL2 - FB. Granted, it isn't the multi-plane monster that the original ended up being, but I think this will grow, as the original did.
It really is fun to play, despite being only half finished.
I actually came in here to post about this.
I played the il2 series from 2003 onwards, so have quite a lot of experience.
Finally dipped into this when it was added to Steam. Funnily enough shortly after there was an update which fixed a lot of the flight model issues, such as a wobbly tale on the bf109. The aircraft are now a real joy to fly! Finally energy management is a real consideration (compared to the days of il2 1946). Flying smoothly is now actually rewarding. Anyone interested in the genre, now is the time to grab this game and support the developers. Multiplayer is getting popular now too and custom servers will start popping up. It's already a much more refined sim than Cliffs of Dover was.
The co-creator also created Rise of Flight, which is an excellent WW1 air sim. Also worth checking out.
Anybody interested in joining forces on teamspeak and flying together give me a pm.

That's a decent joystick/throttle combo but I really wish the cable between the two was about another 6 inches longer. Depending on your keyboard/mouse/desk/screen setup it can be a bit restrictive.tenohfive said:

That looks like a really good bit of kit, I still have the Thrustmaster Warthog which is fantastic but difficult to programme for other flight sims other than the DCS A10 Sim it was created for, even more annoying for DCS is that it doesn't recognise it and set it up so the other aircraft I have make use of the little switches it has.http://eustore.madcatz.com/Categories-EU_2/pro-fli...
Have held off on buying this so far but will definitely look at it when it gets closer to completion, COD is great with the fusion patches, not on par with DCS but definitely worth the £10 that steam are asking.
Question on BOS, are the premium planes fully detailed with all the cockpit systems working?
Also, not worth starting a new thread but the DCS website has a sale on, A10C, Black Shark 2 and Flaming Cliffs 3 are all 60% off and all very good, most of the individual models are on sale as well. Easy to buy from the DCS site and transfer on to Steam, DCS World is free and comes with a basic SU25 if you want to try it out.

Sorry for the thread resurrection...
I recently installed the Team Fusion mods in to CloD and it has transformed the sim to beyond recognition. This is in complete contrast to my previous post in this thread.
It is 100% worth reinstalling and getting in to. I do think BoS is a brilliant game, but I have a preference for the Battle of Britain period and it doesn't hurt to have both does it!

They've now updated BoS with summer/autumn maps, and also quite a few aircraft have been added in.
There's also Battle of Moscow in early access at the moment.
