Don't turn your Xbox One into a pricey paperweight.
Discussion
Just a warning that you can't make your XB1 backwards compatible by following instructions promising 'hidden features' available on the internet.

Who would actually try this s

Is it worse that there are people trying it out or that people post s
t anyway? Morons!
t like that to intentionally trick people into doing it? I vote the latter personally, there will always be idiots to trick but why do it to them?
Backwards compatability would be great to have on the new consoles, then you could actually trade in the old without losing any of your favourite games.
I don't get the train of thought for some people though.
"I've just bought a new £430 console to play state of the art games"
"Oh I wish I could play old games that don't make proper use of my new machine"
"Might as well crack it open and see if I can get the old ones to work I guess, nothing can go wrong there"

Who would release a device where this could happen.
I appreciate modern devices are becoming hideously complex, but the fact the user can, through something which might be almost accidental, render the device unusable is shocking.
Especially given the inclusion of a ROM based factory default and reset switch must cost pennies.
Then again I've never understood why MS doesn't release a chip based OS on either a card, or RAM like chip, that would certainly cut down on piracy and make a fresh install nice and quick.

When you have a library of games that have cost you several hundreds of pounds, some of the games which you or your friends/family still enjoy to pick up and play why wouldn't you?"I've just bought a new £430 console to play state of the art games"

Because you can still run the 360 through the hdmi passthrough?
More pointless wasting space on your tv cabinet including extra leads, sockets, energy, your hdmi passthrough port and the sale of a second hand xbox. I just think the original comment on why people would want to play backwards compatible games was rash that's all.
As it is, the feature is not available but having it would have been nice for some.
3D blu-ray playback from day one would also have been useful, especially in an all-in-one entertainment device (do you hear me Microsoft!). Got a damn PS3 taking up space, sockets and connections that my XBONE was supposed to replace.

use a hdmi converter or a c-video lead?
DAMMIT STOP BEING ALL LOGICAMAL!!!
Appreciate that but as has been said also takes up room. I don't have the massive library of games that other do but the ones I do have I do play. I want an XBONE and will get one but losing the ability to play my 360 games in the front room as SWMBO is limiting the number of consoles in there is making me sulky!

All Xbox One's have the capability of being Developer Consoles - this is because of their (great) self-publishing stuff, meaning you, me, or anyone else can write 'indie' games and release them into the wild. It's a good thing. If you think this is bad go look up Eve Online boot.ini fiasco where a game update deleted the boot.ini file from your OS folder and made your pc into a paperweight, meaning you had to reload your pc OS from scratch and lose everything...
Or when they first released Walking In Stations and it was so poorly coded it was actually melting peoples GPU's...

Minecraft did that too.
The Sims 3 did it not once, but twice to an 8800gt and then the 9800gt that replaced it on my son's PC upstairs.Untethered cards would run at 700-800fps causing huge overheating problems. The lack of in-game V-sync didn't help.
I put the first failure down to it being a relatively old, beat-up card. It was only when I did some digging after the second one went pop where I found out the actual cause.
Cheers EA!
