Downloaded a Steam early access game called Next Car. It's banger racing/demo derby. I haven't had so much fun in a racing game for a long time. I'm talking laugh out loud fun. Normally I would advise to steer well clear of anything early access but this is too much fun.

Wow, I was going to post about this last night.

I downloaded a remake of Theme Hospital so was looking for some of my other favourites like road rash and destruction Derby and came across this.

Not downloaded it yet but it looked good. Is there still a points system for spins etc or is it just a racing game but with more damage?

Early impressions from RPS:

Been keeping an eye on this. PH multiplayer would possibly be the greatest thing EVER.

It is pretty much just a playable demo currently. There are two cars to choose from and a demolition derby arena, gravel and tarmac tracks. So very light on but good lord it is fun. Even my missus who hasn't played a game since 1989 had a crack with the 360 controller plugged into the PC and had a blast.

Multiplayer when it arrives (I'm sure it will) will be out of control fun. It is a game made for replays and each session only goes for about five minutes.

This is lots of fun and I haven't played with anything more than the keyboard.

One thing I noticed was that my mobile graphics card wasn't recognised (Nvidia 740M) so I found this thread and it improved the graphics greatly:

Is this from the guys that made the flatout games on ps2 a few years back? Certainly the original was a great game and I remember it being the first game I had played where the tyre walls actually acted like tyre walls, not like a concrete wall!

Sure is. If you get tangled up in a tyre wall then it's only a matter of time before about two or three AI t- bone you.

Sounds good, but I wish someone would just remake the original Destruction Derby with nicer graphics. The gameplay was fun, the process (Spins get points and "kills" are awarded) with the league system was good and the character drivers just added to it.

I'm not really in the market for just another racer with a nice physics engine to show my car crumpling.

I used to love those Destruction Derby games. I remember the first one had a great damage system but was kind of slow paced, and in the second one it was much smoother.
