Not sure if there is a thread on here comparing the 2 but has anyone played both and have a view?

The original GT 1 and 2 were fabulous but a bit 'meh' thereafter.

Forza 3 and 4 are just awesome and definitely better than GT up to 5.

So, understanding the different console requirements, based on being a 'true' driving game - which is better?

I can only offer my opinion based on playing both, GT6 is good and Forza 5 is fantastic.

It plays smoother and looks better. It is not perfect but it is the only reason I bought a xboxone and it is worth it. If forza 5 was not out I would have waited until it was before buying the next gen console.

See if you can get a hands on with both before you make your decision.

Forza will be a better 'game', I think.

GT's driving model feels a little closer to life IMO, but isn't quite as 'exciting' in a flashy kind of way...

I haven't played F5 but this is the way the previous games have gone.

GT6 over stretches itself at times - the frame rate can suffer. I don't suppose F5 will have that.

That said, give me GT6 with a G27 wheel any day. It's a staggeringly good racing game / sim (quiet, PC brigade ; ) if you're prepared to look passed it's flaws!

Absolutely!

As a massive massive games nerd, one of my fav moments ever ever ever (and I mean next to Half Lifes opening sequence) is a Catherham on CS at Spa, against several other quick, fair racers!

Gran Turismo for realistic driving & handling.
Forza for reasonably realistic but slightly 'arcadey' fun. And it sounds better wink

Forza for the drive and the graphics/sounds, GT6 has the edge with cars. This Forza strikes me as a half finished game, mainly because I suspect it was rushed to finish for the launch of the console. Against Forza, the car selection is missing some favourites from the previous games, and the Sierra Cosworth being DLC is a disgrace. The track selection seems fairly meagre and the introduction of new circuits like Spa, Bathurst and Yas Marina don't make up for the lack of decent road circuits, which are always ore interesting. Fujimi Kaido and Rallye De Positano are sorely missing. The Nurburgring tracks are coming as DLC, apparently.

In it's favour, the car handling model is better than ever and really must be awarded. It's far superior to the weightless, arcade feel of GT6. It's a bit of an unfair comparison though as GT6 is really struggling with some wheezing old technology, and Forza was clearly cut down to half size and polished to perfection for the console launch. The next iterations of both games will provide the true basis for comparison.
