Minecraft PE - how do we get to play multiplayer online?

I like to thing i'm pretty good at working these sort of things out but for the life of me i cannot seem to connect to any of the servers online with minecraft PE. We have the latest version (0.8.1) on the Ipad. Any help appreciated as my young son is desperate to get on-line with it!!
