All the discussion around BF4 on this board and others seems to revolve around the multiplayer aspect and the various issues (cheats, lag, cheats, how do they manage to do that, cheats, etc) that come with that. Does BF4 actually have a single player campaign at all, and if so is it worth buying the game for (on PS4) if you had no intention of playing multiplayer probably ever?

I like FPS games, but simply prefer the single player campaign type mode, I've never really "got" the multiplayer online stuff

It does have a single player campaign but it is very short, this game is very heavily focused on multiplayer, I wouldn't recommend buying it if all you will do is the campaign.

Thanks for that - what constitutes short? (for an average player)

Try the online stuff. With a PH Squad. You will find it great fun - putting C4 on a tank and blowing them to kingdom come, or running people down with a quad bike. Or there's the sheer joy of sniping a pilot in his helicopter and watching the chopper go down killing those on board....

4 or 5 hours if that. It's quite linear (still enjoyable) so is relatively easy to complete.

Agreed, it is quite enjoyable. However, do NOT play online until you finish it (I know you said you don't play online) but still, I learned the hard way. My single player save was deleted when I played online over the weekend, its a known bug. I completed 5 of the 7 chapters, so am a bit gutted, will have to start again.

I did the campaign on easy then went online, got frustrated at my appalling lack of talent and went back to try it again on the hard setting.
Got about half way through till I got comprehensively stuck getting past several tanks on the way to the airport so stopped.
Installed the free handgun upgrade last week and to my surprise it deleted all my progress...

Ive done about 70 hrs solo online, expect to get killed many times! My K/D ratio is awful, but then Ive not played anything like this before.
Ive found shadowing other members in your team helps and you can spawn on them when you die.

I do find it disappointing there are not easy/medium/hard servers to help newbies and stop those that have years on BF using newbies as cannon fodder!

Sadly, a newbie server would be down to the owner of said server to set up. I have seen servers in the past that ban players who are over a certain level either on BF2 or BF3, I forget.
