I've got a 40gb PS3 which I've had for five and a half years and it's not connecting online properly. It'll reluctantly sign in on a wired or wireless connection but take its time. When trying to go online on GT6 it takes ages to connect to the server and any attempt to join a room results in it timing out. It generally runs quite hot but I hoover it regularly and every so often do the fan trick to get the dust out. It has had moments before when its frozen but that hasn't happened for a few weeks.

I have PS+ and I downloaded GT6 so if a new PS3 is the solution then that isn't a problem.

If someone could help then that would be great smile

Have you look at your NAT settings ? Any time I've had woes on Xbox live, it's because of this and I've had to add some rules into the router.

Adding rules into the router is beyond me. The NAT Type is 2 which is good as far as I know.

A PS3 being old and dusty wont affect network performance, it will be some settings (possibly since a patch update?) or your network itself.
Any other conencted devices featuring the same issues?
Run a speed test on your connection - you might be throttled by your ISP.
Reset the router to be sure.

It's the only device in the house having problems. It seemed to be a bit better on a wired connection last night but kept on signing out of PSN and losing connection to the server on GT6.

I've got a 40GB PS3 about the same age as yours and was having a similar problem with it not connecting via wireless. It could see the router, but wouldn't connect. I did a hard reset of the machine and (touch wood) seems to have sorted itself out. There are loads of discussions about it on the internet but the reset solution seems to be the common one.

Thanks for that. Will give the hard reset a try.

ETA: The hard reset doesn't seem to want to work. Really just the server issue causing problems now. It's also running cooler than normal.
