Update old games to next gen?
Discussion
Why aren't game development companies spending some time updating old games into the next gen version? I remember when Valve did it with Half Life and they made the graphics so much better and it was brilliant.
I've got an XBox One and the complete lack of great games is so disappointing. The last truly fun driving game I had was Gotham Racing, utterly addictive and would happy play it again if they updated the graphics and physics to work on XBox One. I found XBox One Forza 5 so dull, so I sold it within a couple of month. I keep finding myself going back on the XBox 360 just to play some good games.

The reason the XB1 and PS4 are quiet on the game front at the minute is due to both Microsoft and Sony rushing to have their consoles on everyone's Christmas list for 2014, ending up with a tiny brace of launch games and having only a slow trickle of games for the next few months. Things are picking up now and there are great things on the horizon, but it has been quiet. I don't think that revisiting 360 games is quite worth it yet.
Word is that Halo 1-4 will get the HD treatment for Xbox One later this year as the Master Chief Collection. http://kotaku.com/report-halos-1-4-coming-to-xbox-...
I'd expect announcements at E3 if it's going to happen.

As a games development company, you can either make a game for a machine with, say, 100 million installed around the world, with resources you already have. Or you can make a game which requires double the graphic work, and 10 million. I wonder which makes most business sense?
Yep but this is my point, surely it is far easier to build a new physics engine then port your old code through it than start from scratch again?Gassing Station | Video Games | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
