Sick of FPS - literally
Discussion
So I bought a second hand PS3 to while away a few hours in the winter evenings. Secondhand, it came with about 20 games, mostly Call of Duty variants plus another couple of FPS (Killzone2, Medal of Honor, Metro Last Light)
So I fired it up last night and stuck on what looked like the oldest CoD (World at War)
I'm pretty hopeless at it to be fair, running around, jumping when I should be shooting etc. But the biggest issue was that after about 15-20 mins of playing (not even completed the first area/zone) I felt really sick. Like properly nauseous and a bit dizzy. Turned it off and still felt bad for an hour or so, then was OK.
I can only assume it is some sort of travel sickness type thing. Anyone else get this? Are all 3D-type layout games going to have the same effect? That would be a pity as I was looking forward to a bit of GTA and GT action in the future.

I've had this the odd time. Can't recall which games caused the effect now though but it was really odd. I know my dad can't cope with them at all. Felt a bit like being drunk, not all games had this effect so try something different.
I suspect it's a case of getting used to it though. If you've not played these types of games before on a big screen it's got to be pretty weird for your brain.
GTA is a 3rd person game so might be better or might be worse. Who knows with GT(this is the game that made my dad ill).

I get it when i play hungover and sometimes when I'm watching someone else play.
Same here. I think it's related to sea sickness were your eyes are seeing motion in one direction but your inner ear feels it in another. Oculus Rift has this effect too, but worse (especially if hung over..).Changing the field of view can help, if FOV is adjustable in a particular game.
HalfLife on the PC used to be a horror for this. 5 - 10 minutes was all I could take before I was green and ready to barf. Altering the perspective by changing FOV and removing head bob made the problem go away like magic.

Sounds like you're not cut out for gaming tbh.
Don't think I am either. But I used to like old-school computer games so thought I'd join the last-gen
I'll start going through some of the Settings to see if I can find how to turn off the bobbing motion.
Otherwise, time to start looking for some non-3D games - I seem to be fine with the kids' Wii games, so it must be something to do with the appearance of motion.
I struggle with this, borrowed borderlands 2, got into the game and had been playing for a bit maybe an hour I thought.
I only noticed it had been longer than that as it was getting dark so I thought make myself a cuppa, walked into kitchen and then threw up in the sink. Very little warning and being sick didn't clear it, ended up needing a lie down felt like been out all night drinking and room wouldn't stop spinning.
Gears of War, GTA, splinter cell are fine, third person looking over a shoulder I am fine, but first person I can't manage start feeling drunk as soon as I look away from the screen.

The only game which made me feel sick was F19 Stealth Fighter. There was a camera mode which followed in the flight path of your plane, but just a few seconds later. You'd see your plane shoot off screen whilst performing some outrageous high-g turn or climb, then your view would suddenly spin or whatever, seemingly incongruous with what my brain thought it should be seeing. Needless to say: I didn't use that view often...

I felt a bit queasy watching youtube video footage of star citizen in the chase camera mode, not full on motion sickness but definitely not 100% comfortable.
I have had a go on the alpha but I only dared try it in 1st person.
As noted - this is an actual thing called "Simulator Sickness". It's kind of the opposite of travel sickness.

I've known a few people with it. "Camera Bob" seems to exacerbate it for people. Unfortunately not sure there's any magic bullet for it.
