Delighted about that now! Only thing is will it be any good? I was thinking of getting a gaming rig for just DayZ but if this is any good I wont have to smile

No timescale at the moment, and I doubt it will be within the year as they will not do it when standalone is still in alpha test on the PC

Highly likely H1Z1 going to be free-2-play on PS4 too...

It was mooted for the Xbox One quote a while ago, though the developer did state IIRC tbsgw Sony didn't seem particularly interested in it, though there was no official confirmation from Microsoft either. It should at least push the developers to get it formed into a proper game now instead of just a buggy alpha.

I wouldn't be purchasing the console just for this... It's much worse than the original mod was on ARMA2 in my opinion and all they seem to add to the game are fking hats. Needless to say I stopped playing it!

H1Z1 looks a lot more promising. As mentioned, its free to play and based on the epic Planetside 2 engine. DayZ:SA is a complete mess on PC at the moment.

SA will get better, it's only about 30 percent finished at the moment. It's getting a new engine, it will have vehicles, both ground and air. 100 person servers. I'll admit it's a frustrating process following the alpha but it's getting better with every update now.

Goodness, although it will need to be the full huge island map, no hackers and then base it on the arma3 engine.

The original mod was excellent, haven't tried th standalone as no one has a good thing to say about it.

It may well end up on the XB1 too, since Dean Hall has been tweeting today that it's not a console exclusive, leading to speculation that it may be a timed announcement for Sony, given Microsoft's reassessment of it's bizarre launch parity demand. More concerning is, will it actually come to a home console?

Dean Hall, the creator of the initial mod and the standalone DayZ game has announced that his is quitting the project at the end of the year. Despite apparently considering himself hot st when it comes to development, DayZ has so far amounted to an expensive and largely broken sandbox title. A very interesting experiment, but even it's most ardent fans would probably say it's a long way from full game. Even the promised fixes to major bugs have been slow in coming. It clearly needs a massive injection of time, money and effort to turn it into something which will sit well with console gamers, who aren't used to half finished, barely working games like modded PC game players are. Will it ever arrive at that point?

Clearly, both Microsoft and Sony have shown an interest in the game because both have been in talks with Hall over it's future, and they've no doubt noticed that over a hundred thousand gamers were willing to pay $30 a go to play it in a broken Alpha state. Whether or not it'll actually take the steps forward to be suitable for console release remains to be seen, but I hope that it will.

I don't think this is ever going to happen.

The game is still nowhere near Beta, years off proper release. If H1Z1 is as good as its supposed to be it might make them give up on Dayz anyway.

Dean Hall left Bohemia but is still assisting with the game isn't he? Also they announced something about they can't fix certain game breaking flaws on the current engine, such as zombies clipping through everything. So they are having to redo major parts of it again.

Its going to be 5 years until the proper PC version is out, a decade if it really does come to PS4! biggrin

I'm not sure how well this will translate to a console, the controls alone would be an issue as there are a lot of buttons to map over onto a gamepad! I've lost some faith with SA though; its been in development for a long time now and other than clothes and some items there has been little different added on the face of things.

I think Bohemia need to concentrate on getting a solid game out of all this before planning to port it over to a console. Of course this could mean that the new engine they plan to use will be a console-enabled one - and the cynic (and PC elitist!) in me worries that if that is the case then it will end up not looking as nice as it currently does!
