Few months ago i was 100% ps4, now it's time to order i'm having cold feet.

The thing putting me off is reading about the psn being unreliable ( as it was for the ps3) , most of the people i game online with are going ps4 , yet it seems more unreliable.

For under £300 i'm looking at x box 1 with assassins creed black/unity or x box 1 with cod or ps4 with drive club.

The oldest question in response is what have your mates got?

Having said that I just went from Xbox 360 to PS4

I play with a clan and they have both xbox and ps4 groups, most the ones i gamed with have gone ps4 but they say the download speeds are pretty dire.

General consensus is that PSN is fairly dire compared to XBL, which I'd agree with, but PS4 has the power and right ethos for the gamer this time round, though Microsoft are attempting to gradually claw that back.

I have read (even on these forums) that the Xbox one UI is clunky as hell compared to the Xbox360?

And the downloads on the PS4 being bad is just not true in my experience. In fact the other day folk were talking about a 2gb update for destiny. I was playing GTA and thought 'bugger, want to play destiny but have to wait for an update'

Nope. The PS4 had downloaded and installed it while I was playing GTA and I hadn't even noticed.

Well, the downloads may be slower (I don't know TBH with a 3mbps internet speed anything is slow) but you can play a game on the PS4 and it will download in the background. Hell, you can leave her on standby overnight and she will download all the updates. It is a pretty awesome feature IMHO.

I like the PS4 controls. HOWEVER< buy TWO. The battery life is s***e..

All online content you purchase on PS4 would be lost if your machine is hacked and you decline to compensate sony in full. Playstation plus membership gets you a few crappy games your never play however no guarantee of getting online.

Well I have both

I bought the PS4 on the 24th December 2013

Played it for about 6 weeks, then got bored, no good games have been out for a while etc, and it went back into its box for a couple of months till I got it back out for GTA 5..

I bought the Xbox One around 2 months ago..

I have many more games on the Xbox, the games look better and seem to load quicker

The controllers on both are odd at first but are alright, I prefer the Xbox One in every way, I wish I had got that instead of the PS4 and saved all the money it cost me

This for me is a major thing as i enjoy online more than the solo game.

If the ps4 graphics are a bit better but i can't actually get online would piss me off.

I went xbone to ps4, sold ps4, bought another PS4 then traded back to an xbone one!

Why - origonally the mandatory NSA cam really put me off the Xbone as its in the living room. Thankfully MS have ditched it now so I have one without.

PS4 - I prefer it to the xbone for its size, looks, controller and I am not a big fan of MS. But then certain things killed it for me;
No media decent remote - xbone has now
Way sick of waiting for 3D support (it has it now thanks to MS)
No DNLA/MKV support - Xbone now has and I must say its bloomin good too
Insane install times of games vs xbone - 30mins plus for some!
Serious issue with Sony blocking game content to minors, irreversible, no parental consent will fix it and it happens after you bought the game with no pre warning. Very annoying when you buy a 12 game and hes 11! Not an issue on Xbox, the parent can override ratings. Other issues with child account not being able to be upgraded once they turn 18. Generally a mess.

What I will say though, for a cheap Blu-ray media computer front end, the PS3 is still the king.

i like the xbone as had a 360 and not had a ps since the two.

i like all the stuff for media playing, the difference in games between the ps and xbox means nothing to me. I am used to xbox that is why i bought it. not had a problem with it yet but my nephews one broke after a few months.

The XB1 will also do background updates whilst you play another game, which a boon. You can even mix online functionality and it'll stop and start the background download to accommodate that. The ability to leave a console on standby and have it download though, was a last gen feature, I can remember when they brought that change in too!

Um, what? The PS4 has the XB1 beat hands down for install times.

One last question-

This tv viewing stuff the x box 1 does , does it have to be connected to the sky box?

Our tv/sky box are in the living room, the x box would be in the office in a different room.

It seems to break at least once a month, messaging is always broken and support take ages to reply.

I have switched from 360 to PS4 because it is technically superior and cheaper. I must say that in terms of experience its crapper than my 360. The graphics I would say are the same and I have battlefield 4, destiny, assassins creed, Minecraft, far cry and some other games. I have a TV far superior to anything either console can render so it's not a problem with that.

The controller isn't as good, I would say if you have man hands nothing will beat the 360 controller.

Also the online stuff is rubbish, always crashing, lagging and updating. I didn't have this with Xbox (may be different with the one)
